In terms of new slots which are released for Vegas casinos, industry pioneers WMS are often at the forefront of new ideas and themes. Theme
It will come as no surprise from the game name to see this cabinet and the reels adorned with ancient Greek themed symbols and icons. A quick push on the touchscreen brings up the games pay-table to let you know what the chariots, Spartan warriors and other famous Grecian icons are worth to you in terms of hard cash credits.
It is anyone’s guess who the fabled Lady Of Athens is supposed to represent, Athena herself perhaps or one of the lesser known deities of Greek lore – it matters not so long as she pops up with frequency on the spinning reels!
What I do note with this game, sorry to be a critic WMS, is that whilst the animations, theme and cabinet are all of a high standard – the music in this game is not a shot from Artemis’s bow, it misses by a country mile. Be it the ringing in of big wins or the reel music itself, there is absolutely nothing congruous about the tunes or tones, they clash badly against the game theme unless you are on a casino floor busy enough for them to be drowned out or fade to the background.
Features
Fortunately for Lady Of Athens, the gameplay features are so enthralling that neither the theme, cabinet or music really matter once you get deep into the gameplay features and bonuses which will grip you to the edge of your seat or stool.
First up is the ‘Awesome Re-spin Feature’, this icon as you may have astutely guessed, locks into place the highest paying symbol on the board and re-spins the remaining reels, any of the Lady of Athens wilds on the screen are also locked and you have the potential for a multiplier to land also – no Spartan wins here then!
Next up on the features list is ‘Awesome bursts’ this nifty little bonus icon will fire a fizzy golden ball across the screen like the famed snitch from the Harry Potter series. Each symbol on the reels it crashes into is transformed into another wild! As with the re-spins feature you will be praying for a multiplier to go along with this.
Last in the trilogy is the previously mentioned ‘Awesome Multiplier’ symbol, which appears on reel 6 only and can offer up to 20x any win displayed.
Summary
If you want thick and fast action and don’t need to be absorbed by some movie inspired iconic theme – this is a great game series. As with other WMS game series more than one title is available in this format if you prefer a different style of visual entertainment but are enthralled by the gameplay features.
