Frozen Inferno Slot Machine
If you like your slot games to blow hot and cold, it appears WMS are happy to oblige with this surprisingly complex high variance slot title with an epic wizardry visual theme backing it. Sit mesmerized by the array of stunningly rendered symbols on this 5 reel, 3 row and 40 pay-line video slot.
Fire and Ice is a common enough magic based theme, forming two of the primary elemental symbols used in magical spells and ancient worship. This game seems to be piggy backing on the array of mystical and ancient themes popular in wide stream media at the moment, you could easily see links to both the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy and the immensely popular Game of Thrones TV series in this game. Indeed George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy novel set is called a song of ice and fire, co-incidence WMS?
Theme
Frozen inferno takes the words ‘epic theme’ and takes it to a whole new level, you start the game by selecting a game mode by character, either the fire mage or the ice wizard, they both have the same human features but are dressed and coloured according to their elemental skills.
The frozen game takes place in a glacial mountain range set against a starry night sky, with the reel symbols featuring deep vibrant blues and whites and the sticky wild symbol an iced over window on one position on the reels.
When you begin the inferno side of the title you have a similar backdrop but the glacial mountains are now replaced by burning volcanoes and the blue and white of the previous game is replaced by burning reds and smoky black icons with the transferring wild now a live animated fire.
Reel icons can be overlooked by designers but here they are beautifully and intricately constructed, you will find parchment spell scrolls, enchanted rings, wizards staffs, and many more icons of the ancient mystical genre. The graphics team really went to bat on this game and the audio guys matched them with a range of fantastic sound effects and a creepy dark musical theme.
Features
Gameplay is far from neglected though I warn you, get some time in playing this as a free slot game or with a no deposit bonus if you can before switching to real cash mode as the sheer number of symbols which can combine on the 40 active pay-lines may leave you constantly reaching for the pay-table button otherwise.
Both games begin with a single wild symbol on the reels, it can either move in fire mode or freeze in position if playing as the ice wizard. Both modes add 1 wild at a time until 5 are accumulated and the bonus round initiates giving you a random amount of free spins.
When entering the spins bonus round both sets of wilds are now active, the ice as a sticky wild and the fire as a transferring wild which will move to the same position on the reel as the ice wild. Every winning spin during the round causes one reel to change to the opposing element starting from the left reel and you will need these to combine for heavy value as once 5 wins are achieved the free spins round ends. So whilst your number of spins may be unclear it doesn’t actually matter in the way it would in a traditional slot as the number of your potential wins is fixed.
The second bonus feature is a simple pick a win bonus game where you visit an ancient warlock and select from the crystal balls offered to you, your final will be the uncovered credit values combined with a random multipler.
Summary
Not only does this game structure sound complicated – it is. In its favour there are large wins to be had in the games base round which is nice, the bonus game factor is limited though and I think WMS could have done more with it given the time and energy invested in the games visuals, music and theme. That said – fans of the genre will love it and it is far more engaging than a traditional fruit machine. Personally I think it’s possible that NetEnt’s Fantasini game might have this eclipsed in the magical arena.
