Monster Mash Slots
If you’re feeling a little bit spooky tonight and craving some thrills, Monster Mash looks to be your best bet as far as slot games go. From the UK-based software company The Games Company comes this bright and colourful video slots game. Honestly, upon first view we were a bit surprised at the palette choice, as we were actually expecting something along the lines of a night time/Halloween theme. What this game actually features is a bunch of funny monster characters within the reels, which in itself is set on top of a bright blue-sky background.
Monster Mash looks to be a visually appealing and is a potentially fun game, so how does the game itself measure up to its appearance?
Spooks and Shocks
The designs of the characters themselves are reminiscent of the “Freaky” series of slot games by CTMX/GamesOS. Another video slots series that also makes use of colourful, anthropomorphised renditions of letters, objects and other non-human entities. The design of the background almost looks as though it came out of a kids’ TV show – we’re largely referring to the simple, playful 3D designs that don’t make an overuse of detail and visual stimuli. The menu, as is the case with many of The Games Company’s games, isn’t laid out as plainly as it is in other games, because clicking the unlabelled buttons to the side can access many of the game’s functions. Aside from that, the layout is clean and presentable, albeit rather basic.
What caught my eye (likely by design on The Games Company’s part) was the fact that it advertises a total of 243 ways to win in both corners. Could it be true? If that is the case then that means that you can place huge bets and walk away with some truly epic wins.
Feel the Chill
Monster Mash doesn’t feature any strange gimmicks or features (well, save for the claimed 243 ways to win). The game utilises a standard 5x3 reel framework, with coin denominations that range from 0.1 to a hefty 10 units of currency. This is absolutely huge compared to most other video slots games. The game does in fact have 243 pay-lines, so watch those bet sizes. If you activate at least most of them you’re virtually guaranteed to score a win on every spin. The upper-left button lets you access the game’s sub-menu, also allowing you to control the game’s sound and graphics options. The auto-spinner is available to you should you not want to click the spin button again and again. The game also features a wild and scatter symbols.
Monstrous Prizes
OK, so there are no bonus games and no progressive jackpots here. But That doesn’t mean a thing as you get massive bet sizes<, 243 paylines, 10 units of currency per coin, free spins, and wild symbols (the pink eye) – can you picture the size of the wins you can get with all that? The base jackpot is “only” 100 coins, but that can be easily triggered with all of the paylines in effect. There is a winnings multiplier in effect when you are on the free spin round too, which can go as high as 10x.
When you get at least three eye symbols on your active paylines you trigger the free spins feature. What’s cool though is that you get to pick from five body parts to make your monster when this feature rolls around. The traits from the selected parts you choose determine the multiplier and number of free spins awarded. Furthermore, your created monster will go on the reels as an extra wild. While it’s no bonus game, it adds a really cool and unique touch to the already exciting free spin round.
Gloriously Ghastly
Like many of The Games Company’s games, Monster Mash is fairly basic in its setup and presentation, but that does not mean that this is just another slot game. With more pay lines available to you than most other slot games out there, a really neat bonus round, and such a large amount of coins to play with, this game was designed to pay out big in a short period of time. If you do manage to get free spins sit back, put your feet up, and watch the wins roll in. It’s pretty amazing that they fit in so many paylines on a simple 5x3 reel setup, so you’ll see some really interesting winning patterns here. While the game doesn’t necessarily offer some of the gimmicks and games that some slots players might normally enjoy, Monster Mash more than makes up for it in its sheer winning potential.
