Frost & Fire Slot Machine
Manufacturers of some of the most widely-played slot cabinets in the bricks and mortar casino industry, it was only a matter of time before software developers Spielo took some of their more popular land-based offerings online – and Frost & Fire is just one such title.
Getting the full digital makeover to make it compatible with online casinos, Frost & Fire is essentially a classic slot with a handful of unique twists that take it out of the realms of standard 3-line fare and create something more akin to a modern video slot, complete with bonus rounds.
Cloudy with a chance of pay
Although looking and feeling like a retro slot cabinet, Frost & Fire is anything but in terms of the innovative ways that it awards payouts. Nominally a 3-reel, 8-payline game that allows players to begin wagering from as little as $0.08 per spin, the game also features four different ways to win.
In addition to the line payouts – which provide cash prizes for matching any three-of-a-kind combination – Frost & Fire also awards four corner wins, all fruit wins and the super jackpot full screen award, which triggers the game’s 1,250x top payout when all visible symbols are identical.
This range of different winning methods means there’s plenty of added excitement in Frost & Fire, and that’s before we even get onto the presence of free spin scatter symbols and the special sun bonus grid – which can award over 150x your line bet when it is completed during the base game.
Blowing hot and cold
Given Frost & Fire was converted from a bricks and mortar slot cabinet, it should come as no real surprise that the visuals are fairly traditional and the sound effects are nothing out of the ordinary.
Although the game doesn’t feature the ubiquitous ace-through-ten playing card symbols, the icons that are included on the slot’s 3 reels are pretty standard fare – with fruit symbols like oranges, plums and watermelons lining up alongside other slot staples like crowns, anchors and BAR logos.
A smiling sun and puffing cloud are the two unique icons featured in Frost & Fire and give the game its unique seasonal appearance, with the former filling sections of a special bonus grid to the right of the reels and the latter acting as a scatter symbol that triggers free spins and additional payouts.
In terms of audio, you won’t find much beyond the bleeps and whirs of a classic slot machine in Frost & Fire, but again, this is in keeping with the title’s land-based roots and should come as no big shock.
Let the sun shine
Despite being a classic slot title, Frost & Fire actually does a fairly good job of cramming a host of additional features into what is a very basic user interface. Not only are there the extra payout awards that we mentioned earlier, but there are also two unique bonus features included as well.
The first is a free spins feature that is activated whenever three or more cloud scatter symbols appear anywhere on the game’s 3 reels. When this happens, not only will players receive an instant prize payout of 3x their total bet, they’ll also be given two additional free spins with the cloud icons remaining in place on the reels. Should they add another cloud during these extra spins, they’ll win a bigger prize, with a maximum payout award of 200x your total bet on offer if you fill all nine spaces.
The second feature in Frost & Fire is the Sunshine Bonus grid, which is a 3x3 square that is situated to the right of the reels. Every time a sun symbol appears anywhere on the gameboard, the corresponding square of the Sunshine Bonus grid will be filled in – and should players manage to fill all nine spaces during a session, they’ll be awarded a cash prize based on their current bet amount.
Bright and breezy
Although it is essentially a classic slot machine, Spielo have done a good job of adding enough unique bonus features and additional prize payouts to Frost & Fire to make it stand out from the competition. The game has a pick-up-and-play appeal that will undoubtedly make it popular with slot purists, while the free spins and bonus grid will keep more demanding players entertained too.
