Football Fever Online Slot Machine Review
I was relieved to find that this slot was based on the global Football game (soccer if you prefer) and not the US version where players in oversized body armour chase after an egg. It is possible to date this slot, based on one of the symbols. The Vuvuzela (plastic trumpet) was a big thing at the 2010 world cup in South Africa. This slot has the all-ways 243 win lines setup, and 2 different bonus games.
Graphics are bright and bold, with the symbols spinning over the background that looks like the hexagons pattern on a ball. In addition to the vuvuzela, you’ll find a yellow card, referee, tickets, goalie making a save and shirts on the reels. While the graphics are well done, they are not as crisp and clear as those you’ll find on some other slots. The resizing of Saucify slots is very smooth, making them great to play on mobile devices. The soundtrack is upbeat and happy, though it is a little repetitive. The win line sounds are mostly less annoying than is usual for this software house. There is one exception – the whistle – the tone is just all wrong!
Like all Saucify slots, there is a free spins round to be enjoyed (with multipliers). You can also play a penalty shoot game.
Setup and Play for Football Fever
With 243 winning combo games there are no win-lines. Instead symbols on consecutive reels starting from the left are considered to be wins. This makes the games very easy to follow; you’ll never have a combination going across the reels which misses one of the win-lines. You will see from the pay table information below that the wins are smaller than on some other slots. This balances the fact that you’ll hit a lot more wins on the 243-ways games – especially when you hit one or more of the wild symbols.
You can select your coins size and the number of coins you want to spin each time. The minimum spin is 25c – and auto spin is available.
The ball in the grass is the wild symbol for this game, as usual substituting for everything except the scatters. 5 on a line are worth 750 coins, with 200 coins for 4. Of the regular symbols, the world cup has the biggest prize; this is worth 600 coins for 5. The player doing a bicycle kick (400), goalie (350) and ref (250) come next. There are many smaller paying symbols, including a fan, stadium, boot, shirt, tickets and the dreaded vuvuzela.
Yellow cards are the bonus scatter symbols. If you get 3 of these the ‘Penalty Round’ will start, there are no separate pay-outs for these. The other scatter is the whistle, this has both a scatter prize and triggers the free spins feature. The prize is based on the total spin amount, and is 150x this for 5 (+15 spins), 15x + 10 spins for 4 and 5x + 5 spins for 3. There are no free spins for 2 on the reels, though you will get 5x your total spin amount.
Football Fever Bonus Games
The Penalty Round needs to load separately, so you will go back to a grey box on your screen for a few seconds. When the game starts you will see a goal taking up most of the screen, complete with a goalie. There are many targets to pick from, and all you need to do is choose one. You’ll kick the ball to that, a prize will be shown and then the prizes on the targets you did not select will be revealed. That is all there is to it – not the most interesting of slot bonus games!
Free spins at least have the potential for you to rack up some big wins. There is nothing different about the play during this round, and even the graphics are the same except for a countdown of spins and accumulation of prizes. One big positive is that all wins are tripled during these spins. You can trigger more spins or even the Penalty Round while the spins are occurring.
Football Fever – Conclusion
Another decent, if unspectacular, slot by Saucify. I’m really not sure if there is enough ‘footballness’ about it (other than a few random symbols) to appeal to those who love the game. As a slot it does not really have that much going on. I enjoyed playing it to an extent, though this game is very unlikely to be one I return to regularly. The free spins game is the highlight for me, with the triple wins combined with the 243 ways setup meaning the wins add up fast.
