Graveyard Shift Slots
Top Game stays within the spooky-funny universe as in Grave Grabbers, and this time around the developers have added an original twist to it.
Graveyard Shift focuses indeed on Dia de los Muertos, aka the Day of the Dead festival as it is celebrated in Mexico. If you are not familiar with the tradition, you probably already are with the aesthetics associated with it. A single glance at Graveyard Shift will be enough to give you that “aha” moment, as we will see very soon.
Stay around for a full review of Graveyard Shift, where we will explore the game universe and the gameplay to give you a proper introduction.
All Eyes on the Reels
Graveyard Shift is one of those slot games that focus their entire visual power on the reels and the symbols spinning on them.
As such, the background of the game is almost blank. The reels appear to be floating above a piece of parchment and above a giant pile of gold.
The real interest of the game is in the symbols themselves. The various skulls are indeed painted in the typical way associated with Dia de los Muertos, their eyes accentuated by large black circles that contrast against the white of the bones. The graphic quality and originality of Graveyard Shift makes it stand out from the crowd at first glance.
Freedom to Choose
Top Game is once again letting players decide exactly how they want to play the game, leaving you a lot of freedom to customise the game at will.
All the commands you will need are right under the reels on the game screen. The five reels display three symbols each at the end of each turn, forming 25 paylines in total. Use the bottom commands to activate or deactivate as many as you like, and of course to determine the size of your bet per line. The game also lets you determine your coin value. The central Spin button will validate your settings and set the reels into motion. Try out the Bet Max option to activate all paylines and start the reels with a single click.
After each win, you can hit the Gamble button to play an optional mini game. Guess the colour of the card to double your earnings, as many times as you want. A wrong answer ends the game and takes away your gold, so be careful. Use the Autoplay mode to skip the settings and go directly to the spins, with the game on autopilot.
Traditional Paytable
The symbols of Graveyard Shift are the main attraction of the game, as mentioned before. They will take you right into the unique traditional universe of Dia de los Muertos.
The first four Skulls are the most common on the reels, but also those that pay the least in comparison with the rest of the menu. You will find a King and a Queen figure, a Valet and some sort of Psychedelic Skull surrounded by bright, colourful shapes.
The final four symbols bring more gold to your stash. These various Skulls all wear elaborated hats and sombreros, and are much rarer during the game. The Queen of the day with her flower-adorned figure is the most valuable of all characters of Graveyard Shift, so keep an eye out for her.
When the Magic Happens
Graveyard Shift would not be complete with a few special features to spice up the game for players. Here again, the developers at Top Game have you covered.
The bright orange Pumpkin is a Wild card. It can replace any other basic symbol and act as a joker to complete a winning combinations on an activated payline. A quick and easy fix that can make you win big when you least expect it.
The Treasure Chest is a Bonus Scatter symbol. As such, you only need to land three of more of them anywhere on the reels to trigger a Bonus cash prize that will immediately be added to your credit total. The more Chests you find, the higher the prize of course.
Get to the Graveyard
Graveyard Shift is a rather classic slot game when it comes to gameplay and Bonuses. The game features just what you would expect and will probably not surprise players with a little experience in the slot game world.
That being said, the unique game universe inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead makes it all worthwhile. Whether you are familiar with this tradition or not, Graveyard Shift is a great way to win some extra cash in a beautiful and original gaming environment.
