Mammoth Wins Slots
It’s time to take it back to the Stone Age in NuWorks’ Mammoth Wins. Ever since The Flintstones first appeared on TV in the early 60s, Stone Age civilisations have been depicted in the likeness of America’s modern prehistoric family.
This means marrying genuine implements of the era – stone hammers and wooden clubs – with 20th century inventions, restyled using the materials that were available at the time. If you’re playing Mammoth Wins, it’s fair to say you’re not doing so to learn more about our early ancestors, and as such will forgive NuWorks for any liberties they’ve taken with the historical canon.
The 5-reel, 25-payline game is a progressive jackpot game that also has 2 other jackpots built in, cos that’s how NuWorks roll. The game is laid out in NuWorks’ trademark style, a style that isn’t the cleanest but can’t be faulted for the amount of controls it grants the player.
Starting at the top of the screen, there are two scoreboards framed in stone tablet, the one to the far left of the screen denoting the value of the major (or progressive) jackpot. To the top right, you’ll find a similar tablet displaying the value of the minor and mini jackpots.
Cartoon Capers
Down the left and right hand side of the reels, you’ll see a number of coloured ovals with numbers in their centre. These correspond to the game’s paylines and will light up when winning symbols land upon them during pay. If you’d like to adjust the number of paylines, you can do so via the control button at the bottom of the screen, where they can be set at anywhere from 1-25.
Below the reels you’ll also find a Cashier button, your balance displayed to the far left and a green Spin button on the right hand side. Above it there’s a speed control with 5 settings. If you’re in a hurry, crank it up to the max and watch as the reels skid to a halt.
In the centre of the control panel, there are controls to set the bet per line, which can range from 0.01 - 5.0. Finally, an autoplay button allows you to determine whether the reels stop auto spinning after 5, 10 or 25 rotations.
Hit Spin and the reels will do their thing before coming to a halt and triggering an animation of some kind. If the mammoth is the predominant symbol in view, he’ll shake his head and trumpet in a manner akin to his evolutionary successor, the elephant. NuWorks have anthropomorphised their creatures, giving the mammoth, bear and vulture human-like qualities. In fact, they look more human than the caveman who also appears on the reels. Other symbols of note include a Stone Age axe, a wooden club, a fire and some berries.
Don’t Win Big – Win Mammoth
The friendly looking mammoth is one you’ll hope to be seeing a lot of. It’s the game’s wild symbol and will substitute for any of the other regular symbols. When a wild symbol helps you score a winning combo, the resultant win will be tripled. The more mammoths you land, the more you’ll make: 3-5 scattered mammoths will secure 9, 18 or a monster 33 free games.
As always, NuWorks have ensured there are multiple ways to win big. It’s astonishing that some slots developers don’t even bother to equip their games with a bonus feature. NuWorks, on the other hand, appear set on cramming as many bonus features into their games by way of compensation. Another feature you’ll encounter during play is known as the win-win feature. This kicks in if you’ve been awarded free spins but have failed to win anything as a consequence of them. That’s when the win-win feature comes into play, landing you up to 100x your bet.
J is for Jackpot
The top prize available in Mammoth Wins is $13,333. It’s a tidy sum for doing little more than hitting the spin button a bunch of times. There’s no saying whether you’ll be fortunate enough to scoop the big one, but even if you succeed in landing the minor or mini jackpot you won’t be complaining.
Mammoth Wins is another classic NuWorks game, one that isn’t going to win any awards for excellence, but which is a real grower. The sound effects are so-so but the graphics are cute and the gameplay excellent. Expect to put in some serious screen time before you tire of Mammoth Wins and move on to pastures new.
