Red Lady Slot
If when asked “Do you like pirates?” your instinctive response is “Aye aye captain!”, then you should stick around for a little longer and read this review of Red Lady, a pirate themed slot machine game by Novomatic.
This game is played on 5 reels with only a total of 10 paylines, but don’t let that discourage you from giving it a try. The Red Lady has a lot in store for any kind of player – from landlubbers to veteran pirates.
So make sure the gunpowder does not get wet, and let’s embark on a brand new gambling adventure.
Across The Seven Seas
Aesthetically speaking, Red Lady is simply stunning. The designers have certainly spent a lot of time and effort into detail work, and it clearly shows at first glance. The game obviously revolves around the adventures of a young, red-haired female pirate and as such, many iconic elements of the genre are present both on and around the reels.
The background is very rich in details, with two figureheads flanking the reels on each side and splitting the landscape into two separate worlds. To the left, you will see a pirate ship sailing in rough weather with the wind blowing in its sails and lightning flashing. To the right, the ship is mooring in a peaceful tropical creek under blue skies. On top of the reels, an ominous skull watches over with two antique guns crossed behind it.
The same imagery is using as a background on the reels themselves, with a sailing ship heading towards sunset at full speed. Clearly, this game wants to take you on an adventure and it is doing an excellent job at creating the appropriate atmosphere.
Game On
The Novomatic command setup is a familiar sight for many players, and Red Lady is no exception to it. You will easily be able to select how many of the ten available paylines you wish to bet on, and the amount of your bet by clicking the corresponding (+) and (-) buttons below the reels. The Start button will unleash the reels, and the Autoplay feature is the insurance of a seamless and uninterrupted game.
One last classic feature is the Gamble button: this feature is not available during Autoplay, but you will otherwise be given the possibility to double your most recent wins by guessing the colour of a hidden card in a virtual deck. But be warned, as failure to do so will make your loot disappear forever!
Come Hell Or High Water
Pirates and gamblers have something in common: the love of gold and treasure – and a taste for adventure also. Players will find all these elements during a game of Red Lady, and the reel symbols are the perfect proof of that.
You will encounter 10 different symbols in total, which we can evenly split into two groups. The lower half is a direct reference to classic card games, from 10 to Ace with everything in between, in ascending order of value.
Things get more interesting with the second group of symbols: a Crossed Guns symbol, a Parrot, a Ship and the Red Lady herself – five of which will land you the jackpot!
Golden Compass Set On Even More Gold
The last symbol is a Compass, and if lining three or more of them up on an active payline will make you a winner, there is more to it.
First of all, the Compass acts as a Wild card to substitute any of the other symbols, and therefore multiplies your chances of winning! But things don’t stop there, as the Compass is also a Scatter symbol. Which means that if three or more of them appear anywhere on the reels, you will immediately be awarded 10 Free Spins. At the beginning of this bonus round, a reel symbol will be randomly chosen and any winning combination of that symbol will trigger a chain reaction, covering the nearby reels and triggering all paylines simultaneously.
Talk about setting fire to the powder keg!
Red Hot
The Red Lady has a lot to her name: beautiful graphics, flawless animations, great sound effects and music reminiscent of a certain recent pirate-inspired movie franchise, which many will immediately recognise. It definitely is a lot of fun to play, and a good example of what modern internet-based pokies can offer.
The relatively small amount of paylines available could be a drawback for some players accustomed to more potential winning combinations, but Red Lady is overall a fun and pirate-filled, well-executed game. Arrrrrrrr!
