New York Gangs Slot
Welcome to New York City the glorious 1930s, a city where having the right friends is essential to stay out of trouble. But if it is trouble you are looking for, the rewards can be astonishing…
Gangster movies are a great premise for a slot game, and this is what Games OS is delivering with New York Gangs. How did it translate in terms of aesthetics and gameplay? Let’s take a look…
The City That Never Sleeps
The Big Apple is a fantastic background for basically any kind of story, and it works very decently as a background for our game as well. Behind the reels is a splendid night-time view of Manhattan, with its many skyscrapers all lit-up and glowing in the night sky.
Two gangsters, with the classic mafia look, flank the reels: fine suits, hats, automatic weapon and mysterious briefcase, probably filled with cash obtained in shady ways. The two fellas are discreetly animated, fidgeting at times or smoking a cigarette.
The music is reminiscent of the 1930s as well, upbeat and classy. Overall, the developers did a good job creating a game universe that is coherent, immersive and fun.
Getting Ready to Enter the Underworld
New York Gangs is played on 5 reels and across a maximum of 30 paylines. This is enough legroom for scoring several winning combinations at once and becoming the next mafia boss!
Before you start testing your luck, there are a few easy steps to follow. Take a look at the bottom of the game screen and use the (+) and (-) buttons to adjust you wager, or line price. The Bet One switch allows you to activate as many paylines as you would like. And if you are feeling lucky, why not go all in? A single click on the Bet Max button will let you bet on all 30 paylines at once! Otherwise, hit the Spin command once you are satisfied with your settings.
You can also sit back and enjoy several spins in a row thanks to the Autospin function: it will let you pick the number of spins you want to play consecutively, or alternatively you can make use of the x5 and x10 spins shortcuts.
Come Prepared for Big Pay-Outs
Let’s take a look at the paytable and get familiarised with the reel symbols of New York Gangs. There are nine basic symbols, and you will only need two of the most valuable lined up on an active payline to start triggering rewards.
All symbols pay from left to right, and we begin with a few Bullets, some Dynamite, an automatic Rifle and a stash of Dollar Bills. All of these are common occurrences in the mafia world, and four gangsters differentiated by their background colour follow them: Violet, Blue, Green and Red.
The last symbol is a pile of Gold Bars, which is your ticket to winning the progressive jackpot, this of course is only available during real money play. In order to do so, you will need to place an optional side bet before you let the reels loose. Remember that sometimes, you need to spend money to make money.
Last Bullets
There are three last bullets, to be more specific, left in your arsenal. Each of them comes with a little extra to spice up the game.
The Safe is the Wild card of New York Gangs. It can substitute for any basic symbol and complete, or extend a winning combination and grant you some extra cash. Moreover, a Safe appearing on the second or fourth reel trigger the Mega Wild feature, where the whole reel turns into a giant Wild symbol.
The two last icons are both Bonus symbols. You need at least three of the same symbol on an active payline to be awarded a Bonus game. For instance, the green Bonus is represented by a Briefcase and it triggers the Odd Man Out Bonus round. Shoot one of the two gangsters and collect the content of his briefcase. On the other hand, the yellow Bonus (a Revolver) will let you play a classic game of Russian Roulette. Pull the trigger as many times as you dare to collect some extra prizes!
Classic Features with a Bit of Originality on Top
New York Gangs is a rather classic video slot game. The rules are familiar to most players, it does not appear to be bringing anything new to the table at first glance, no Scatters available and the design of the symbols is sometimes a bit uninspired and plain.
While this is true, it also has several features that can make up for all this: the optional progressive jackpot and the two fun Bonus games are worth your time and money.
