Frost Dragon Slot
Want to know more about this dragon themed GamePlay Interactive release? Keep reading our Frost Dragon slot review to find out. The 5-reel Frost Dragon brings with it a somewhat interesting theme involving (yes, you’ve guessed it) frost and dragons.
But is this the best online slot to play? Are there better options with a similar theme? We’ll break everything down and give you all the information you need to know in our Frost Dragon slot review.
Feel the Chill with This Dragon-Theme
In a move that feels inspired from the popular TV show Game of Thrones, the game features a blue dragon that breathes ice and can encase the whole set of reels in a sheet of ice during the bonus round. This adds to the wintery feel of this slot, whose backdrop is made up of a snowy terrain with snow-covered trees.
Graphics cannot compare to slots from the brilliant Yggdrasil, but Frost Dragon delivers an overall solid performance in this department.
Breaking Down the Basics
Whilst researching our Frost Dragon slot review we found that the layout is quite generic. There are 5 reels and 3 rows, a spin button, a max bet button, and an auto button.
There’s also a Stop Loss Limit with a total bet of 5x, 10x, 20x, 50x. You can even opt to stop if a single win exceeds a certain value, or if the balance increases by an amount of money, and if you win a bonus feature.
Dragon Frost populates the reels with royal symbols ranging from 3 to 50x your stake, and in a somewhat surprising move, frozen sea creatures including an octopus, a shark, and a lobster.
Frankly, the combination of a blue dragon with frozen underwater creatures is a bit weird, but we’ll go with the flow. 5 lobsters or octopuses can give you 80 times your stake, while 5 sharks will grant you a decent 250 times your stake.
The wild symbol substitutes for all symbols except the scatter symbol, and is stacked on reel 3, which increases your chances to form winning combinations. The blue dragon is the scatter symbol in this slot.
Three scatters will trigger the free spins feature round. The round is composed of ten free spins, which is a good number of free spins to offer. Judging from the paytable and our testing, this slot is medium variance with the chance for decent, bigger payouts in the bonus round.
Improve Your Winning Chances with Down Rush Reels
Our Frost Dragon slot review found that the main feature in this slot is the down rush reel mode, also known as tumbling or cascading reels. Here, winning symbols are cleared from the reels and replaced by new ones.
There are also 1x,2x,3x, and 5x multipliers. This is increased in the free spins round to a 3x, 6x, 9x, and a 15x multiplier.
What’s annoying about this down rush reel mode is that it leads to slow gameplay. We would have preferred something faster that does not let excitement levels dwindle as you twiddle your thumbs and wait for symbols to fall into place.
Play for Free or Real Money
Line bets start at 0.05 coins and go up to 100 coins per line bet. Since this slot has 20 paylines, this means that the total bet can go up to a whopping 2000 coins per spin.
Keep in mind that this slot provides a decent potential for big payouts with the free spins round of ten free spins that involves up to x15 multiplier and downrush reels. Having said that, the scatter symbol is quite scarce and took us close to 250 spins to trigger the bonus round.
Dragons and Cascading Reels
We decided to check out some similar games whilst completing our Frost Dragon slot review. If you want to see more dragons on the reels, you can play Pragmatic Play’s 5-reel Dragon Kingdom, which has an RTP of 96.47%. Like Dragon Frost, it can be classified as medium variance. Graphics-wise, this slot is better, with animated dragons breathing fire on the reels.
If you love the down rush reels concept, you can check out Play’n’Go’s sci-fi-themed Cloud Quest. It’s not aimed for a new player, as it contains complicated mechanisms like a level-up system but it does have transforming wilds and bonus features.
What’s the Verdict?
Down rush reels, a free spins round, increasing multipliers. These are all features we’ve seen time and time again, so Frost Dragon does not win any points for innovative features. However, they do help keep the slot interesting; maybe not nail-biting excitement, but interesting enough with the possibility for decent payouts.
Overall, our Frost Dragon slot review discovered this is a good slot, but not one of the best. Play for free now at the top of the page.
