Royal Gems Slot Machine
Royal Gems is a 5 reel, 10 payline game from GameART, with a top prize of 500x your total bet. The paylines here are not adjustable and the theme is traditional gems, with a hint of royalty in the form of a crown and a bejewelled sovereign ring.
As any player will know, gems are a very common theme in the world of slot games, beginning with the traditional machines and continuing into modern releases such as this one. Here, the artwork has been thoroughly modernised to give the gems a shiny, realistic appearance and a striking combination of blue and yellow background colours sets the graphics off beautifully.
For a modern take on a traditional type of game, we’re in love with the artistic execution of this. Other popular gem themed slots include the massive hit Starburst from NetEnt, Dazzling Diamonds from Novomatic and Mega Gems from BetSoft. The success of Starburst in particular has sparked an outpouring of new gem-themed games in the hope of producing a hit and Royal Gems is one of these contenders.
A Wealth of Sparkling Treasures
We’re rather taken with the unusual, modern design of this game, which we put mostly down to the high quality graphics of the gems themselves and an eye catching yellow and blue mosaic-style background image, which is also visible behind the reels.
The gems look so realistic we’d like to pluck them out of our screen. They also come in a variety of shapes and colours, from pear shaped to heart shaped and more traditional rose cut stones. The Scatter symbol is a 5 pointed star shaped diamond. Bringing the royal element to the game is a crown symbol and a golden lucky 7, which also adds that traditional slot machine feel.
The sounds are in the style of a traditional slot, with no music, just the well-known sounds each time the reels stop. For execution of the popular gem theme, stylistically GameART have done very well here and we like the look of the game.
All That Glistens Isn’t Gold
This 5 reel game has just 10 paylines, keeping the bet amounts low with a 0.01 per line minimum and 0.50 per line maximum, bringing the highest total bet to 5.0, for top prize of $/£/€2,500. So this is a nice low budget game to suit the smallest of stakes.
Similarly to Burning Flame, another modern traditional slot from GameART, the Scatter here simply gives the advantage of winning wherever it falls on the reels. There are no free spins rounds or bonus games here, just the traditional spinning of the reels. The symbols here must also be adjacent to each other to unlock their prizes, for example the crown symbol could on reels 1, 2 and 3 and you’d win the 3x prize of 25 but if they landed on reels 2, 3 and 5 you wouldn’t get a win. This is the downside of lower payline games and of course it does mean that the wins arrive less frequently.
The bet amounts may be low, but it follows that the number of wins are also low. The values of the all symbols are available in the pay table below.
Bag Those Gems
In our opinion, if you’re going to play a traditional type game with a simple format, you might aswell make sure it’s nice to look at. Royal Gems is a very eye catching, well-designed game which we immediately liked the look of. While the format of the game is no-frills and feature free, it’s a visually appealing game with high quality graphics and can easily be enjoyed for a very small spend.
We think this game could appeal to anyone who likes traditional, simple games and it might particularly appeal to the female players as the gems make it a more feminine design than the traditional fruit or pirate themes. Our one grumble would be that the low number of paylines here is going to make this a tedious game to play at times, as wins will be few and far between, but then this does mean you’ll appreciate each win that little bit more.
