Dragon Lady Slots
Dragon Lady is a 5 reel, 25 payline fantasy themed game from developer GameART, with a top prize of 80x your stake. The theme is an unknown fantasy involving the dragon lady, crystal balls, gold rings, a spell book and a treasure chest. Fantasy themes are produced in abundance, quite often including dragons, swords, elves and other common fantasy icons.
Popular titles of this genre include Game of Thrones from Microgaming, Dungeons and Dragons from IGT and Jewel of the Dragon from Bally. With the film franchises of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and more recently the hit Game of Thrones series, there are dozens of fantasy themed games to choose from.
This does mean that providers have got to try that bit harder to be able to compete with similar games from rival providers. What we’re a little confused by with Dragon Lady is the distinct lack of any dragons! There’s a female lead character, decked in an ornate helmet like she’s ready to battle a dragon but there doesn’t seem to be a dragon to battle.
Swords and Spellbooks and Treasure, Oh My!
We’re a little bemused by this theme. When you see the word dragon in a title, you basically expect to see some dragons. Unfortunately, no dragons to be found here! This is a simple, no frills slot game with only a free spins round to jazz things up a bit.
A mish mash of fantasy symbols deck the reels, with a backdrop of a sort of stone vault, a little bit like the Moria mines from Lord of the Rings. The symbols include a bejewelled spellbook, a sword, a treasure chest, a crystal ball and a cluster of gold rings which look very much like the One Ring, including the inscription. This symbol is the Scatter, which when landed twice anywhere on the reels leads to a cash prize and a free spins round.
The dragon lady herself with her ornate gold helmet is the Wild symbol. Even the symbols seem mismatched; the spellbook and crystal ball from a witch or wizard theme and the sword and fighting character from a medieval or fantasy theme. The music is appropriate for the theme but the other sounds are more traditional in style, which again presents a mismatch in styles. Sorry GameART, but we just don’t get it. It’s almost as though the theme was thrown together from random suggestions at the last minute.
Inside the Treasure Chest
This is a 5 reel, 10 payline game with a top prize of 2,000 coins. Coin values range from 0.01 to 2 with a maximum total bet of 50.00 and a minimum of 0.25, so a wide variety of stake options to suit all pockets. The number of active paylines is not adjustable here, but since the coin values start low this isn’t an expensive game to play even with 25 paylines active.
The features here are the Dragon Lady Wild and the Gold Ring Scatter, which triggers the free spins round when landed twice anywhere on the reels. The free spins round has excellent potential, our first round of free spins landed us a total of 106 coins! The spins can also be retriggered.
Unfortunately, that’s all there is to this game; the Wild, the Scatter and the free spins round. No bonus games or extra features, just a simple straightforward slot with a mediocre theme. The values of the symbols are in the pay table below, calculated based on a bet of 0.10 per line for a 2.50 total bet.
Grab Your Sword for a Drawn out Battle
Admittedly, we’re getting a little tired of the overused fantasy and magic themes, which have been interpreted in every possible way to produce dozens of slot games and land based slot machines. We love to see an original theme and they seem to be increasingly hard to find. So when we first played Dragon Lady, we were basically underwhelmed with the theme from the start, and further disappointed by a mediocre rendering of it.
The plot here makes no sense and the graphics are nothing particularly special. The game is simple to play but we found nothing that would make us come back to Dragon Lady. A dragon or two might have done the trick!
