Ice Pirates is a new and original take on the standard pirate theme by Endorphina. This time around, the sea mercenaries have exchanged the warmth of the tropical seas for the frozen North Pole.

The setup is simple: 5 reels and only 10 paylines in total to bet on. But don’t think of Ice Pirates as a boring little slot game, the gameplay makes up for the apparent simplicity of the setup.

Let It Go…

Given that Ice Pirates takes place on a pirate ship sailing in the Arctic Ocean, you would be right to expect many icebergs and well below zero temperatures. As a player, you will have a view from the front deck of the ship, looking over to the sea under a starry night sky. Blue and white are the dominant colours as the ship sails softly and the occasional fish jumps out of the water, only to freeze after a few seconds.

The five decks are wooden, separated by ropes and partly covered in frost. The overall atmosphere is still and quiet, with only sounds coming from the creaking ship and the few sea gulls flying around.

As usual, Endorphina did a great job setting up the game in a believable and coherent atmosphere. It is quiet and tranquil yes, but the real action begins once you have hit the Spin button!

Arrrrr!

The commands in Ice Pirates are straightforward and you will master them in no time. Start by setting your preferred coin value by clicking the Coin icon at the top left-hand corner. You can select a value between 0.01 and 5. Then move on to the bottom of the game screen to choose how many coins to bet on your next spin thanks to the appropriate up and down arrows. The last step is to activate between one and 10 paylines, check out the Lines display on the right side to do so.

Now you are reading for some real money internet gaming! Either spin the reels once or click the Auto button to let the game go on and on without interruptions. In single spin mode, you will have the option to click the Take Risk button and try to double your latest win by beating the computer at a guessing card game. Classic Pirate Icons

There are 12 different basic symbols on the reels of Ice Pirates, plus an extra category worth a lot of gold. We then move on to the red-haired Pirate Girl, the Pirate Penguin and the Polar Bear. Two distinct members of the Pirate crew follow for extra chances at a big win.

The last two symbols are special. The most valuable of them all is the Captain, a combo of four being the game jackpot. In addition to this, the Captain also acts as the game’s Wild card, substituting every other symbol! Well except one: the Skull, which is the Scatter icon. The Mysterious Fifth Reel

The last reel is indeed special in Ice Pirates. It does not contain any of the symbols we have mentioned before but multipliers instead. They are bottles and flasks with a tag attached to them to indicate their value: x2, x3 or x5. Any winning combination with a multiplier at the end of its payline is multiplied accordingly! But beware, some of the multipliers are frozen solid and won’t be triggered.

Last but not least, two extra multipliers are introduced during the Free Spins: x10 and x20! You can imagine how high you can go with a large multiplier added to a valuable symbol combo. The sky is the limit!
