Hocus Pocus
Wizard of Odds is all about magic and the supernatural realm, with a decisive creepy Halloween vibe on top.
The game is indeed set during a dark night, in the middle of a forest and under an ominous purple sky. A grey-blue stone frame runs across the reels and you can see the outline of what appears to be a tall metallic gate in the background. Potentially the entrance to a graveyard, who knows, but the overall feeling is rather spooky.
The music matches the graphics, and without being completely disturbing it still adds to the eerie feeling of Wizard of Odds. Nothing to shout about, in short, but still a decent design, able to compare with existing slots that pay real money in the genre like Magic Portals.
How to Play
Wizard of Odds follows a classic gameplay, with five reels and 30 potential paylines in total to bet on.
The arrows marked (+) and (-) at the bottom of the game screen allow you to customise your settings in the usual way. You can set the coin value from 0.01 to 1 credit, and activate as many paylines as you wish. The numbered tabs that flank the reels on both sides can also help you select your paylines. Winning combinations of symbols on an activated payline trigger a corresponding cash reward, to be directly added to your credit total.
The remaining buttons at the bottom right-hand corner are there to validate your wager and launch the game. You can either click the green Spin button to let the reels loose manually, turn by turn, or use the yellow Auto Roll to set up a predetermined number of automatic spins. The orange Bet Max switch lets you go all-in and spin the reels in a single click.
Magic Symbols
Let’s now take a closer look at the paytable of Wizards of Odds and see what the game has in store for us in terms of reel symbols.
There are eight basic symbols in the game, all of which are directly inspired by the universe of witchcraft and magic. They have a simple and easily identifiable design, with a single-colour theme for each symbol.
So keep your eyes open for the Witch flying in the distance on her broom, the Owl, the creepy Mansion on a hill, the Jack-o’-Lantern, the ominous Gates, the witch’s Lair, the Wizard and the Book of Spells. That final symbol is worth 100,000 times your initial bet for a five-of-a-kind combination!
A Little More than Meets the Eye
Wizard of Odds follows a classic pattern for a video slot game so far, but a few extra symbols on the reels that help spice up the game with some extra magic.
The blue Crystal is the Wild card of the game, which simply means that it can substitute for any of the basic symbols mentioned previously and help create extra winning combinations along the way. That means more cash rewards for you!
The bright yellow Scatter symbol, as its name suggests, triggers rewards even when scattered across the reels randomly. Those rewards come in the shape of Free Spins in packs of five, ten or twenty depending on how many Scatters you manage to land!
Finally, the Wizard’s pointy Hat acts as a bonus symbol, which fills up the bonus meter displayed on top of the reels: each Bonus symbol pays 100 points, and the Bonus game is triggered as soon as you reach 1000 points. During the game, you task is to prepared the perfect magic potion by choosing various ingredients that reveal cash prizes in return.
Luck and Magic Are a Good Mix
There is more to Wizard of Odds than its witty name. Behind the classic setup and graphics hide a decent array of special symbols and a Bonus game that can prove very rewarding. The game might not look like much at first sight, but you will be surprised at how addictive it can be! It even draw us away from games like Magic Wand.
