Tails of New York Slot Review
When I was first informed that I would be reviewing the ‘Tails of New York’ slot, my immediate thought was that it might be a misspelling of the word ‘Tales’ and I’d be playing a slot based around stories from the Big Apple. However, there certainly was no mistake – this is a slot all about creatures with tails roaming New York, featuring dogs, a cat, a fox, what might possibly be a goat and an Eagle masquerading as the statue of Liberty.
The slot has a very modern feel to it, the cartoon like graphics looking like something from an animated movie. The slot is framed against a New York sidewalk, with a street sign above the reels on which the title sits. Traffic lights and pylons sit either side of the reels and alongside the tailed animals you’ll find many other relevant symbols including a newspaper, pizza, a camera, a yellow taxi and a take-out coffee. The background sound to the slot is the general hubbub of the city, with general traffic noises, cars beeping and a lady shouting ‘Taxi!’ with an uplifting piano tune greeting each spin.
This slot is rich with features that include a free spins round, randomly assigned wilds and a pick-em bonus round.
Set up and Play for Tails of New York Slot
This slot has the standard five reels and contains 40 win lines. You’ll be able to customize the number of lines by clicking on the ‘lines’ button, the current number of lines displayed on the traffic light to the right of the slot. You’ll choose both the coin amount and coin value to give you the total stake for the slot.
To win at the slot you’ll need to land consecutive symbols from left to right on a win line. The three top paying symbols are Buddy (a scruffy looking black and white dog), Gordan (a bulldog smoking a cigar) and Chow (a pipe smoking cat) and you’ll need to only land two of these symbols in a row to gain a win. You’ll win 7,000x (Buddy), 2000x (Gordan) and 1,500x (Chow) when landing these leading symbols 5 times in a row. All of the other symbols in the game pay out between 1,000x and 20x for five in a row and all also need at least 3 in a row to gain a win.
Buddy is also the scatter symbol in the game and will substitute for all others apart from the scatter symbols. As a nice bonus, any win gained using Buddy will be doubled.
Occasionally Buddy will appear randomly to the right side of the reels and take a picture with his camera which will turn one of the symbols on the slot wild. This is a nice original touch which leads to additional wins.
The two features at the slot are both activated by their relevant scatter symbols. Firstly there is the free spins which is started when the taxi driving fox appears three or more times. If Chow’s van appears three times you’ll enter the ‘Chow’s Run’ feature.
Tails of New York Slot Features
The free spins round is progressively better the more scatter symbols you used to land the feature. Landing the minimum 3 scatters will give you 5 free spins with a 5x multiplier, landing 4 scatters gives you 7 free spins with a 7x multiplier and the maximum five scatters gives you 9 free spins with a 9x multiplier. The free spins cannot be re-activated during the feature, but with such multipliers this isn’t really a surprise.
The Chow’s run feature sees Chow unloading various items of loot from the back of his van, including a famous painting, a Ming vase and a jewel encrusted tiara. You’ll pick a selection of these treasures by taking a picture of them, each one awarding you a cash prize.
Tales of New York Slot Conclusion
The Tales of New York slot by Saucify is one that grabs you from the start. Graphically the slot is impressive and the sound does a real good job of transporting you to the streets of New York. This is just the start, as when you begin playing you’ll realise that the game is not just cosmetically good. The features are wide and varied and are enough to keep you playing for a good amount of time and then coming back for more. This is an excellent slot by Saucify and one that I would certainly place in my top 25.
