Witches and Wizards Slot Machine
Magic is something we so desperately love the idea of having - the ability to be able to fix everything within an instant is a luxury we have dreamt about for years, with Harry Potter helping to keep that fire burning. Now you have a different magical outlet in the form of Witches and Wizards, another themed slots from the makers of Roundstone International.
As you’ve probably gathered from the name, there’s an element of things that go bump in the night, a regular spook fest, but with a fluffy edge that takes the fear out of experiencing the unknown. Those used to playing with the brand will have expected the light air about the graphics, but for those not well versed, the soft oranges and cute kitties may come as a shock.
A Friendly Witch
Before we get down to the brass tacks of the game, let’s take a look at the aesthetics and theme, and how well they communicate to us gamers. As far as a Halloween inspired titles go (and clearly this is one), it isn’t as visually stimulating as others of a similar genre.
A black backdrop a wash with rich colours makes for a delightful and lively world in which to play, while the decorated matrix is covered in bubbling cauldrons, black cats, brooms and wizened hats. Then there’s the kooky faces of the glowing monsters towards the bottom of the screen that further cement the comedic rather than the terrifying.
Trick or Treat!
As seems to be common with the brand, there’s a bonus level waiting for those lucky few fortunate enough to access it, and when we say few, we really do mean it. Roundstone International have made getting this feature improbable.
For those uninterested in testing out the free slots demo and looking at the paytable, the symbol you’re looking for to start collecting all that tasty candy is the bag of treats commonly seen in the arms of children on Halloween night. Unlike the other icons it’s permanently animated, which does lead you to think you’ve created a winning combo when you haven’t. Talk about bittersweet.
Sadly the bad news doesn’t end there, for without three or more of this symbol, not only do you get no bonus level, but you won’t make that 5,000 prize.
Cat Burglar
If you’ve come across our guides before, then you know how much we favour the creativity that goes into the gamble option of Roundstone International online activities; they might essentially be the same feature, but they look awesome every time. This time round players have two pumpkins to engage with, one of which is hiding an adorable furry thief.
In our playthrough of Witches and Wizards, we actually managed to guess correctly and double our winnings, but then we got it wrong the next go and lost it all. In our opinion, the volatility here doesn’t feel quite as harsh as in their other titles, but that could be a trick of the imagination.
Abracadabra
Despite the name being Witches and Wizards, not many of the icons upon those 5 reels are of either, but there’s one prominent character you’ll want to get if the bonus symbol eludes you, and that’s the wizard in purple.
This unassuming tile is how you can get a free spin, a trait that the brand favours greatly; instead of giving you loads of free games, they give you one for every three matches. Simple and yet effective, it helps build a sense of excitement in a game that would otherwise be dull and lifeless.
Backfiring Spell
When it comes to Roundstone International and their take on the wizarding world, they’ve magicked the mystery away; it’s a bland and uneventful game, even with the bonus round (if you unlock it). We’d like to say that this is a one off, but the brand seems to make slots on the basic side, with low variance but considerable difficulty.
This game is worth a punt, but don’t go overboard, for there’s plenty of others out there more worthy of your time and money.
