River of Riches Slot Machine
In case you had any doubts about which river is involved, the Egyptian images instantly show you that this is the Nile. This is an atmospheric and visually impressive 5 reel slot from Rabcat. Compared to many other Rabcat titles, this is a simple game. There is a single free spins bonus round (which includes sticky wilds on the reels) and that is your lot. Compared to the progressive elements and multiple bonus games found on other slots by this premium Austrian slot maker – this one is low intensity. That said, it is worth checking out for the dark brooding feel and silky-smooth game play.
Rabcat continue their run of visually impressive slots. The setting for River of Riches is the inside of a tomb of an ancient Egyptian King. There are broken stones underneath the reels which have the controls, and you can see hieroglyphics on the wall behind. There are small pillars either side of the reels which spurt flames when you hit a win.
Symbols are very detailed - the Pharaohs mask, ankh and sunset over the pyramids - are all stunningly produced. The Scarab beetle stands out with amazing light-work. Many of the symbols are playing cards, which are not particularly Egyptian looking. My guess is that having these as hieroglyphics would have made the slot a little too visually intense. There is a satisfying crunch and thud combination as the stone-like reels spin, followed by a short tune for wins. One minor gripe is that some of the ‘dringgg’ win-sounds go on repeat between spins, which makes it difficult to pause this slot and come back later.
A red jewel triggers a free spins round with a great animated sequence where the gaps between the reels turn gold and sparks fly – revealing your sticky wilds. More on that below.
Standard Rabcat Gameplay
There are 25 win lines by default, which can be changed. The coin size on the version I played was defaulted to $20 ($500 a spin!) so please make sure you double check this. You can choose from 1c per line, making the smallest spin for all lines 25c. There is an auto-spin option, which is the ‘A’ in a circle underneath and to the left of the spin button. You can also elect to gamble after a win, this is a standard ‘flip a playing card’ game.
Wins on the pay table are set out as multiples of your total bet amount. These are on the smaller side compared to other games, though with wilds in play you will often hit multiple winning combinations at the same time. Golden masks top the regular prizes, with 40x your total bet for 5 of a kind. Ankh’s come next at 20x, with Scarab beetles and pyramids at 10x. Most symbols require 3+, though the smallest (jack and ten) and biggest winning symbols pay out for 2 of a kind.
A vivid red jewel is the free spins symbol. This is also a scatter, paying out for 2+ on the reels regardless of where they land. You will get 50x your total bet for 5, 10x for 4, 4x for 3 and 2x for 2. In addition, 3+ of these symbols triggers the free spins bonus game with 10 spins.
There is a wild symbol, which substitutes for any of the other symbols (except the jewelled free spins symbol). This does not have any pay-outs of its own, though will often complete multiple wins.
River of Riches – Free Spins Bonus
You will get 10 free spins with 3+ of the red jewels, though no more for 4 or 5. Before the spins begin, there is an animated sequence with sparks covering the middle reels. You get between 1 and 4 wilds at this point – which stay ‘sticky’ though out the bonus game.
Once your bonus starts the spins run through, with impressive flames coming from the pillars at either side of the reels when you win. At the end of your spins you are taken to an intermediary screen which totals up your win from the triggering spin and your free spins. Click ok here to get back to the main game.
Mummy's Favorite
Visually, this slot is excellent – I cannot think of an Egyptian slot which is better produced. Compared to some of the other Rabcat slot machines, this game has a lower intensity level. The wins are smaller on average and there is only the single bonus feature to keep you interested. It is also interesting to note that there is no progressive element to keep you playing like you will find on many other Rabcat slots. I enjoyed this game – and recommend you check out those amazing graphics for yourself soon.
