Crypt Keeper Slot Machine
Moody, dark, sinister, and oozing in creepy atmosphere, this five-reel online gambler from PariPlay isn’t exactly the warmest bedmate you could ask for, but it sure is a lot of fun. Taking its inspiration from those things that go bump in the night, expect a few frights along the way as you try and claim your winnings.
In many ways, Crypt Keeper is the ultimate horror-themed gambler, with a sense of humour. Everyone seems to be here, well, maybe not everyone but Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, werewolves, zombies, ghosts and ghouls. The result being a very varied looking screen when the game opens up, and for us that only makes the idea of playing even more exciting.
First impressions probably couldn’t be better then, even the sound of the thunder crashes and lightning animation across the screen are irregular enough not to become really annoying, which anyone with experience of being driven slowly insane by the repetitive noise of waves lapping against a shoreline will probably appreciate. Anyway, enough with the introductions, let’s dig a little deeper.
Setting Sail
So Crypt Keeper is a 5-reel online slot machine, with its theme being the supernatural beings that have often stalked out dreams, and dominated literature and film. Everything about the game is nicely in keeping with this, even when you click to view the Paytable, which tells you what picture card matches are worth what amount of money, there’s a tremendous thunder clap, which is a nice little touch.
The pictures themselves are classic PariPlay, and by that we mean really polished and surprisingly detailed. On the list you have black cats, bats, skulls with snakes slithering around them, mummies, walking skeletons, ghosts in sheets and pumpkins wearing a rather menacing grimace and witches hat. The top one of these to go for is the mummy, the least valuable being the humble bat. Although wait to see what that can turn into before making any judgements.
Opening the Door
Before you start playing you need to know the rules to the game. Basically you are looking to match up threes, fours or fives of the same picture on the reels. You have to match these up on an active Payline, though, anything not on an active Payline will not be counted as a win.
You can adjust the size of your bet in the bottom of the play screen. The more money you add to your bet, the more money you will win if your bet comes up trumps. The less money in there, obviously the less money you will win.
Paylines are clearly crucial, and you can add up to 20 of these to play with at any one time. The more Paylines in play, the more opportunities you have to win, but this won’t impact on how much each win is worth. It’s also worth noting that if you’re playing with a lot of Paylines and a high bet size, your money isn’t going to last that long. Just something to consider.
Fright Night
In addition to the standard pictures, there are some much welcomed and rather familiar special ones to keep an eye out for. Firs up is the Frankenstein’s monster, this is a Wild card and will substitute for any other card to complete a valid combination. The more of these you land the more is added to any winning value.
Next is Count Dracula, in all his red velvet caped glory. He doesn’t look particularly friendly, and obviously he wants to suck your blood, but he’s actually a very good thing to see crop up. Drac is a Scatter, and these act as multipliers to increase how much your bet pays out. Finally, the werewolf is a bonus symbol, and activated a bonus round. The best thing about this is that with bonus rounds you are guaranteed to win.
Silly and Serious
All in all Crypt Keeper is a great 5-reel gambler with plenty to really enjoy. We love the theme, the soundtrack is just right, and the detail is great too. Although there aren’t as many paylines or reels as some offer, it strikes a great balance between silly and serious, with loads of fun in the drawings, but serious winnings to be had too. On the whole then not quite perfect, but it’s near as well damn it.
