Gods of the Nile 2 Slot Machine

Gods of the Nile 2 is an OpenBet upgrade on the original Gods of the Nile slot. While the original had 9 paylines, the medium-volatility sequel has added 11 more. The bonus features have also markedly improved, with the addition of a scatter symbol which induces free spins bonuses and multipliers.

At heart though, this is more of the same in terms of the theme – which you probably expected given the title. Gods of the Nile 2 is all about the spoils of Ancient Egypt: the gold bullion, diamonds and pearls gathering dust in some well-fortified tomb, just waiting for an online slots player to bust in the door and fill their pockets. Could it be you?

    Lines and Stakes

Just like its predecessor, Gods of the Nile 2 features configurable paylines, so players don’t have to play on all 20 lines if they don’t want to. Of course, the more lines you play, the higher your wins will be when they arrive.

As for the coin denominations, the smallest coin is 0.25 while the highest is – wait for it – 50. With all 20 lines in play then, you can expect to be able to wager 1,000 credits per spin of the reels. Note that you can also wager 1,000 per spin if you’re playing on just one line.

    Familiar Reels

From a visual aspect, OpenBet haven’t poured their energies into making Gods of the Nile 2 any prettier than its predecessor. The title of the game no longer appears above the grid, but everything else is much the same, although the graphics are very, very slightly better. The 5x3 layout appears inside a tomb and features many of the symbols which cropped up in the original, including a golden pharaoh bust, an Ankh, the scarab, the Eye of Horus, a golden Nefertiti and also five playing cards rather than the original’s three: now 9 and 10 join the Jack, Queen, King and Ace.

Below the reels, you’ll find all the usual controls for Lines, Stake, Bet Max, Auto, Paytable and Spin. Now, though, there’s a Gamble button. The gamble feature is available after every win and gives you the chance to double or even quadruple your winnings on a roll of the dice.

In Gods of the Nile 2, the low-value playing cards represent the poorest paying icons on the board, although the Ace offers pay-outs on a par with the better-paying icons in the game. The 9 offers just one for three, two for four and five for five. The King is a big improvement, paying 15 for three, 25 for four and 35 for five, while the Ace pays 30, 60 and 120.

The Ankh pays six for three, 12 for four and 18 for five, while the scarab pays 12, 20 and 30. The best paying symbol is once more the Egyptian cat, which grants 50 for three, 150 for four and 200 for five.

    Special Symbols

Just like last time, Nefertiti remains unassociated with pay values – this one’s wild, able to substitute for all other symbols to help constitute wins. Nefertiti cannot, however, replace the scatter, and this time she comes with a x2 multiplier on all wins she is a part of.

A scatter icon has also been included, although the games developer must have gotten bored with the Ancient Egyptian theme, as the symbol is just the word SCATTER in purple neon. Scatters pay anywhere and grant free spins as follows: 15 free spins with a x2 multiplier for three; 20 free spins with a x5 multiplier for four; and 25 free spins with a x10 multiplier for five.

The feature icon is once again the pharaoh’s bust. Land three or more of these to activate the mini-game, during which you can win between x2 and x10,000 the line-stake which triggered the feature. The game is the same as last time, the player being asked to pick sarcophagi in a tomb to determine the multipliers within. When you select a statue, it amusingly face plants, but you won’t be laughing if your multiplier is x2 rather than x10k!

    God-Like or Godawful?

Neither, truth be told. Gods of the Nile 2 is definitely an upgrade on its predecessor, considering the addition of more lines, a gamble feature and a free spins-inducing scatter, but we would’ve liked to have seen some improvements in sound effects and visuals. If you enjoyed the original, give it a go, but don’t expect to be blown away.
