Wild Rocket Slot
Blimey...a game about salad leaves that can be foraged and picked in the wild. What will they think of next?
Woah, hold up. Before you get too excited, Wild Rocket isn’t about that type of wild rocket; it’s about the other one. You know; space rockets that are, um, wild in their trajectory.
Wild Rocket is a 5-reel video slot from Octavion Gaming that has a few surprises up its sleeve. In a moment we’ll start the countdown and prepare for blast-off, but before we do so, let’s take a moment to ‘mire the beauty of this game.
Awesome Rocket
It’s a looker alright, but not in the lush, gaudy style that typifies many slots. What really makes Wild Rocket such a joy to play is the attention to detail that’s been lavished on every element of the game, from the background to the symbols.
The former is made up of a cutesy, cartoon rocket and a galaxy of sparkling stars, with subtle rendering and tonality making it the sort of skyscape you could dive into and immerse yourself in. Then there’s the reels themselves.
The central payline is framed by a spinning rocket whose red and white stripes are reminiscent of a barber’s pole. You could watch its infinity spin for all eternity were it not for the fact that you’ve got a job to do. Press start and boy, what a pleasing selection of symbols you’ve got to gaze at.
Wild Riches on a Wild Rocket
The sort of riches you can find in space tend to be rare minerals and gases. Otherwise, space is a pretty barren place. That’s OK though: Octavion Gaming have eschewed representing esoteric metals for the far simpler trope of fruit and bells.
That may sound a little humdrum, but the reality is far more pleasing. The fruit symbols in particular are a thing of beauty, each one inlaid with a punched metal design akin to the kind you might find on the exterior of the space rocket. The effect is to make the lemons and oranges resemble hand grenades.
The explosiveness of Wild Rocket doesn’t end there either: the wild symbol consists of a big ball of flame, hopefully emanating from a dying star rather than signalling the superheated demise of your trusty space rocket. The lowest value symbols in the game are lemons, cherries, plums and oranges. With the line bet set at the maximum 0.4 (the lowest setting is 0.01), the aforementioned symbols will pay out 2, 4 and 10 for 3, 4 and 5 in a line.
Grapes up the ante slightly, with a possible return of 4, 8 and 20. For the bells, those figures rise to 6, 12 and 30, while red 7s offer 8, 20 and 40. Wild substitutes for any symbol except for scatter.
Scatter, which simply comprises the word ‘SCATTER’ framed by a row of blue bulbs, will score you a multiplier of 7, 15 or 50 for 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols. Secure 5 active rockets to win free games galore.
A Stellar Slot?
In action, the best word to describe Wild Rocket would be smooth. It’s a smooth, effortless slot whose beautiful graphics and subtle animations ensure you’ll be as enamoured by the 100th spin as you were by the first.
Notch up a win with the flaming wild symbols and you’ll be greeted by the sight of the barber’s pole rocket speeding across the reels. Your wins will then be totted up across all active lines before a series of coins spill off the reels. All the while, chirpy electronic guitar-based sound effects herald your success. As you play, you should find that winning combos can be rustled up with minimum effort.
Wild Rocket doesn’t pay out as much as some video slots, but the small wins can soon add up when you score a few in rapid succession. Win via a combination of regular symbols – 3, 4 or 5 – and you’ll be given the option to gamble your win. This is administered via a pinball table, with the table’s bumpers serving as multipliers. More often than not you’ll come unstuck here and the ball will tumble down the hole between the flippers. Every once in a while though the ball will bounce just right, earning you a tidy payout.
Wild Rocket then: it’s not rocket science, just a highly playable five-reel slot and that’s good enough.
