Temple of Secrets Slots
What sort of a game could Temple of Secrets be? It’s clearly a video slot, but thematically what sort of adventure could possibly be in store?
Why, it could only be an Indiana Jones inspired quest. Of that there is no doubt.
It’s a well-worn theme, but one with so many facets to it there is no shortage of ways to re-spin and rework it. Novomatic, the company behind Temple of Secrets, are a credible developer whose greatest strength is probably their ability to devise new bonus features and other quirks that elevate their games above the ordinary.
To look at, Temple of Secrets is an attractive – albeit not stunning – game with a jungle vibe to it. We’re talking dense vegetation, exotic (and occasionally dangerous) animals and of course a mysterious looking temple that appears in a clearing, waiting for our Indy-esque protagonist to charge in and relieve it of its riches.
The game plays out on a 5x4 layout, with a close-up of the ornate stone temple serving as the backdrop. Spin the reels and some naff music plays out before the symbols drop into view. Some of them, such as the monkey, look pretty neat, while others, such as Indy, our intrepid explorer, are kitsch personified.
Playing Controls
At the top right of the screen, there are controls for toggling the sound effects and music on or off and for switching to full screen. There’s also a help button should you require additional information. Across the bottom of the screen, some familiar looking controls are laid out in Novomatic’s preferred fashion.
On the far left is a green Auto play button accompanied by a blue Pay table button. Next to that, you’ll find the controls for the number of active pay lines, which can be set from 1-50. As you adjust them using the plus and minus buttons, a series of cartoon bullet sounds ring out.
The same sound effects are enacted when you adjust the amount bet per line, which can range from 1 to 200. With the number of lines and the bet level set, it’s simply a case of hitting start and letting lady luck dictate your fate.
The Temple of Win
The playing card-based symbols, which form the lowest value symbols in the game, are worth a paltry 2 for 3 in a row of either 9, 10, J or Q. 5 of these are worth a slightly more respectable 40, rising to 80 for 5x K or A in a row. Next up is the gemstone or golden treasure. Each of these 2 symbols is worth 100 for 5 in a row, climbing to 200 for 5x temples.
Above them in the hierarchy come the monkey and the leopard, each of which command 400 for 5 matching symbols. At the top of the heap we have Indy, our fedora-topped hero, 5 of whom are worth 1,000. Indy also doubles as the game’s wild symbol, substituting for any of the other symbols except for scatter.
Scatter is played by a golden treasure map and applies a multiplier to any wins you score on the reels. For 3 scatters this multiplier is set at just 1, but it swiftly rises to 10 for 4x scatters and to 100 for 5x.
To scoop the top prize in Temple of Secrets, you’ll need to land Indy, aka the Explorer, on all 5 reels in any position. Achieve this and you’ll walk away with the jackpot. If you’ve been playing with the maximum bet and a multiplier value of 10, you’ll claim the maximum jackpot amount possible.
Secrets Worth Spreading
Any time you score a win on the reels, you have the potential to double it up with the aid of the gamble button. Click on this button to activate the gamble feature, whereupon you’ll be tasked with predicting the symbol of the next card that’s produced, heart or club. Get it right and you’ll double up; get it wrong and you’ll lose the lot.
Temple of Secrets isn’t the prettiest game you’ll ever play, but it’s a fun video slot nonetheless. Novomatic haven’t gone out of their way to incorporate unusual or innovative features, but in truth it’s not a deal-breaker. With its wild and scatter symbols, Temple of Secrets works just fine, providing ample entertainment.
It’s not a life-changing game, but it’s one that acquits itself well and achieves everything it sets out to do with the minimum of fuss.
