A World of Weirdly Friendly Creatures
Monster Wins takes place on an alien planet and invites you to meet its odd and colourful inhabitants.
The transparent reels let you have the best view possible on what appears to be a sprawling alien city. Tall, oblong skyscrapers stretch upwards and into the night sky, lit by hundreds of bright stars. The background landscape is a mix of blue and pink, and the graphic quality of the game is very decent.
The music playing is a goofy tune that sets the mood for a fun-filled game full of surprises. In a nutshell, Monster Wins sets up the mood within a few seconds into the game, and the result is quite convincing.
Get to Grips with this Monster
Monster Wins allows players enough freedom to customise their game settings, while keeping things very simple and intuitive. You will not need to make your way through complicated settings.
The game screen includes five spinning reels with four symbols on display at the end of each turn. No need to look for specific paylines, as you will not find any in Monster Wins. Instead, winning combinations of symbols appearing anywhere on the reels will pay, which leaves you with a total of 1024 winning possibilities at every turn. With this parameter out of the way, you only have to use the bottom switches to determine the size of your wager itself. Remember that your future rewards will depend on it, so do not hesitate to put a little extra on the table if you want to win big.
Hit the arrow to let the reels spin loose. After a win, you have the possibility to play a mini guessing game. Simply guess the colour of a hidden card to double your earnings, or guess its suit to even quadruple them. A wrong guess will take you back to the reels without your winnings. You can also skip the settings and the mini game with the Autoplay mode; the reels will just keep on spinning on their own for as long as you wish.
A Horrifyingly Hilarious Paytable
The time has now come to meet the actual monsters that lurk in the universe of Monster Wins, ready to line up and let you win all their treasures.
The first group of five Mini Monsters pays little but appears often on the reels. They come in various shapes and colours: Blue, Purple, Red, Yellow and Green, and they all actually look very cute.
The adult version of these monsters come in Blue, Red, Orange and Pink only. These Monsters are bigger, but equally adorable and friendly-looking, and they bring much more interesting rewards to the table.
Meet the Boss
As always, NextGen added a few extra special features in Monsters Wins in order to keep players on the edge of their seats throughout their gaming session.
The Wild symbol is a classic icon, which can substitute for any other basic symbol to help you land more wins at once. A very welcome help at anytime.
The Boss Monster is also a very special icon. It is first of all the most valuable of all symbols, but should you feel the entire first reel with it then the Boss Monster feature is initiated. This Bonus consists of three free games to give you an extra chance to win, while the stack of Boss Monster is held in place on the first reel. This feature can also be triggered by collecting three Scatter symbols in any position on the reels.
Monster’s not as big as it could have been
Monster Wins has a lot of qualities in terms of gameplay and game universe. You can start playing and betting in a matter of seconds, and the reel monsters are just adorable.
That being said, the only real bonus feature is not as generous as in other games. Many players would have probably like to win more than just three Free Spins, and perhaps a few multipliers would have also helped keep the stakes high throughout the game.
