MLBPA Settles Lawsuit With FanDuel, Continues to Pursue DraftKings and Bet365

The MLB Players Association (MLBPA) has settled its lawsuit against FanDuel with prejudice, so it cannot pursue the gambling operator again for the same issue. Both sides will cover their own legal fees and signed a confidential licensing agreement.

The representative body claimed that sportsbooks and daily fantasy sports operators used the images and names of league players without the proper permission.

Underdog Sports was part of the same complaint, but its specific case will continue. DraftKings and Bet365 are defendants in separate lawsuits from the MLBPA in a Philadelphia federal court.

Issues around the use of player likeness aren’t limited to the MLB. The NFL’s player body is also suing DraftKings for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) featuring football stars.
