The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and leading casino game developer Playtech are joining forces to improve gambling safety by leveraging emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI).

The multi-year project will test ways to apply machine learning and AI to better protect gamblers. One of the projects that Playtech is funding within the university’s International Gaming Institute (IGI) is a study of ways to program chatbots to help people improve gambling behaviors, especially for sports bettors. Playtech is also funding a new internship as part of the IGI’s first-ever Gaming Manufacturing Internship program.
Talking about the partnership, UNLV IGI Director of Research Kasra Ghaharian said the two parties’ goals are to utilize the “most advanced methodologies to understand, predict, and prevent potential gambling harm.” She believes this work is more vital now than ever as legal gambling spreads across the US.
Playtech Vice President of US Business Operations Jonathan Doubilet remarked that IGI’s cutting-edge research will help create innovative ways to better protect people.
