iGaming giant Betsson is getting out of Colorado, the only US state in which the brand’s sports betting arm is active, after announcing it will pull its Betsafe Sportsbook from the market.
will leave Canada as the only North American market in which the sportsbook is available
Betsafe Sportsbook told customers that the app and online operations will end in Colorado on September 30. This will leave Canada as the only North American market in which the sportsbook is available. Sports bettor Jason Blackwell took to X to share his gripe that he gets a sportsbook exit notice “at least once a week now”:
Blackwell was likely making reference to ClutchBet. A day before Betsafe’s announcement, the Australian-owned brand declared it will be exiting the US market entirely. A statement by ClutchBet’s parent BlueBet Holdings blamed the exit on “slower than expected regulation.”
The competitive US sports betting market, however, takes no prisoners, with many brands walking away as meek as sheep after entering the market roaring like lions.
Betsafe first launched in the US in March 2022 hoping to use Betsson’s proprietary sportsbook technology to pivot into other markets. That hope has long since gone south. As such, Betsafe will stop opening new betting accounts in Colorado on September 6, won’t accept wagers after September 16, and will give players until September 27 to withdraw their funds.
