“He’s running that place”
If reports from the attorney of one of his alleged co-conspirators is to be believed, convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh is allegedly running a gambling ring from behind bars. In addition, the co-conspirator indicates Murdaugh leverages his well-funded commissary account, legal expertise, and political connections to increase the size of his influence and win friends among inmates and guards.
Fitsnews previously referred to Murdaugh as “king of the cell block,” and these additional reports indicate “the 56-year-old convict is continuing to amass considerable power behind the scenes at SCDC.”
He has a side gambling system [based on] cards and betting. He adapts so very well.”
On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Columbia, South Carolina attorney?Aimee Zmroczek – one of the attorneys close to the story – went on the Surviving the Surviving podcast, stating: “I was actually in prison yesterday… [H]e’s running that place. He has a side gambling system [based on] cards and betting. He adapts so very well.”
Extensive gambling and criminal connections
To some, it’s no surprise Murdaugh is purportedly running a gambling ring behind bars. The man has long been suspected to be affiliated with organized gambling. For example, Murdaugh confessed to stealing millions of dollars from former clients, friends, law partners, and family members. Where did the missing money go? Some suspect it went straight into gambling debt.
Murdaugh’s gambling and criminal associates go well beyond those in prison with him. One of Murdaugh’s known criminal associates was allegedly tasked with “overseeing security at Murdaugh’s gambling den” at Moselle. As reported by Fitnews: “Multiple judges and politicians formerly under the sway of the Murdaugh empire?also allegedly participated in gambling activities with the convicted killer.”
However, it should be stated that Murdaugh has yet to face criminal charges connected with any gambling operations. In addition, sources with direct knowledge of the various investigations into Murdaugh’s crimes indicate that gambling is not a focus of the inquiries.
