The Wolverhampton Wanderers were in the news for the wrong reasons last week after announcing a controversial new front-of-shirt partnership with Asia-focused gambling brand DEBET.
A reporter questioned the legitimacy of DEBET, with Martin Calladine claiming that the company has a fake founder, no social media presence, and appears to be the same company as Net88, which partnered with Crystal Palace last week.
Wolverhampton shrugged off these claims by revealing another gambling-related sponsor on Wednesday. BetMGM UK is now on board as its official Europe sports betting partner.
brand’s logo appear across the English Premier League team’s Molineux Stadium
This agreement will see the brand’s logo appear across the English Premier League team’s Molineux Stadium, including on the pitch-side LED ads displays and the backdrops for media interviews. The two-year deal is an extension of its existing relationship with MGM subsidiary LeoVegas which was on board for the most recent season as the sponsor of the practice gear.
BetMGM is an established brand in the US market, jointly owned by MGM Resorts International and UK gambling group Entain. It launched in the UK for the first time in August and has partnered with other soccer teams like Newcastle United to try to expand its reach.
