The Maryland State Attorney’s Office has indicted a former blackjack dealer at MGM National Harbor for allegedly helping three cheaters “win” $43,250 from the casino. Jamie Smith allowed the players to see her cards before they had to make a decision and alter their stakes after the play. She even went as far as not taking their losing bets.

An internal investigator at the property noticed the incident while looking at surveillance footage in October 2023. The State Attorney for Maryland Aisha Braveboy said on Thursday during a press conference that it wasn’t just theft from the casino, but also the children in the region as the tax money from gaming operations flows into the Education Trust Fund.

The 31-year-old dealer is now looking at up to a decade behind bars if found guilty of charges that include theft and embezzlement.

It’s not too uncommon for dealers to get caught up in cheating scandals. Just last month the authorities in Las Vegas arrested a woman who cheated while playing a casino poker game thanks to the help of her boyfriend who was a dealer at the Mandalay Bay.
