The UK government is looking at new measures to help land-based gambling venues better compete with online platforms, namely easing restrictions on said brick-and-mortar gambling businesses.

new measures for casinos, arcades, and bingo halls

The Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sports Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Stuart Andrew released a statement on Thursday, addressing lawmakers about these new measures for casinos, arcades, and bingo halls that are struggling to keep up with digital competition.

He said the idea behind the changes is to bring into the modern era the existing “outdated and overly restrictive regulations” while still properly protecting consumers.

One of the proposals is to get rid of the ban on debit card use at gaming machines and to have more relevant protection measures for players. Other possibilities on the table include expanding the number of machines permitted per location and increasing max stake sizes.
