Ambitious idea

A real estate development company is hoping to construct a luxury resort that would be the tallest structure in the city. LVXP wants to develop a facility that has 2,500 hotel rooms and an NBA-ready arena on the site of the former Wet ‘n Wild waterpark.

It is across the road from the Las Vegas Convention Center and beside the Fontainebleau. The proposed site is the same 27-acre location where former NBA star Jackie Robinson unsuccessfully tried to construct the $5bn All Net Resort & Arena.

The resort will come in at just under the 1,200-foot limit that existing approvals from the Federal Aviation Administration allow. The highest structure in Nevada currently is the Strat Tower which stands at 1,149 feet.

Covering every base

LVXP CEO James Frasure Jr. spoke to the Las Vegas Review-Journal about the plans, saying that the company is building a team with the best talent in the region to try to quickly bring this idea into reality. The venue would have up to 20,000 seats for hosting sports or entertainment events, as well as convention space, a casino, retail outlets, and technologically advanced rooms.

Despite already having an NHL and NFL team, with an MLB organization on the way, Las Vegas is not currently home to an NBA franchise.

While the project does not currently have a name, a disclosed development cost, or details about a hotel partner, its backers aim to make it the first-ever seven-star resort in Las Vegas. Frasure said that the developer would focus on green initiatives when building the resort and that it would be a big boom for the local area.

The current plan

The project appears to have support from local officials, with the Clark County Commission chairman backing the plan that could “transform a valuable undeveloped land parcel into a highly productive destination.”

hopes to start construction either at the end of 2024 or early next year

Frasure officially acquired the site in January for an undisclosed price from the Lowden family, the previous owner of the Sahara Casino. He aims to seek permit approval by July from Clark County and hopes to start construction either at the end of 2024 or early next year.

Steelman Partners is on board to design the casino resort, having worked on similar properties around the world and in Nevada, including the Resorts World Las Vegas.
