The Swinomish Casino and Lodge in Washington is the latest gambling-related property to fall victim to a cyberattack. It posted a message on Wednesday that because of the incident, it is closing its doors until further notice.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing; the casino plans to resume its rewards and loyalty program as soon as it reopens for business, whenever that might be. It said it is “working as quickly as possible” to get its operations back up and running and will post updates as the systems return online.
enlisted the help of cybersecurity experts and law enforcement
The Swinomish Casino and Lodge has enlisted the help of cybersecurity experts and law enforcement to figure out the extent of the damage and to identify the source of the attack. It does not yet know if customer data was impacted and will contact any individuals if this turns out to be the case.
This is just the latest US casino to be on the receiving end of a cyberattack in recent times. In addition to the notable attacks against MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment last year, smaller properties are also in the line of fire. Just last month, the Nisqually Red Casino, which is only a couple of hours’ drive from the Swinomish Casino and Lodge, had to close for about 48 hours following a cyberattack.
