Barstool Sports founder and controversial media personality Dave Portnoy has just cashed in a multimillion-dollar winning bet. The American secured $2.76m in what he has called “the greatest bet of my life.”
The Huskies went on to win 75-60, securing back-to-back titles
Portnoy wagered $600,000 on the UConn Huskies to beat the Purdue Boilermakers in the NCAA Tournament on Monday. The Huskies went on to win 75-60, securing back-to-back titles in the process at State Farm Stadium in Arizona.
Portnoy posted his winning bet on X that same night:
This certainly isn’t Portnoy’s first high-stake wager. Just one week after announcing that he was quitting gambling, he placed a $1m bet on the Michigan Wolverines to beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in January this year. He won $819,672 when the Wolverines did just that.
That is nothing compared the $2.76m he secured on Monday, however. His bet had odds of +360 this time around, compared to just -122 for the Wolverines game. Portnoy has claimed that he sometimes quits betting daily when the results don’t go his way.
