Tipico recognized for responsible gambling advocacy

Tipico sportsbook has earned a unique distinction for sportsbooks in the field of customer protection and responsible gambling.

the first sportsbook in the United States to seek and receive the distinction

On Monday, the sportsbook announced that it earned the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCGP)’s Internet Compliance Assessment Program accreditation in New Jersey and Ohio. It is the first sportsbook in the United States to seek and receive the distinction.

Tipico, which is also live in Colorado and Iowa, is hoping it can carve out a niche as the safest sportsbook as it has failed to match the raw power of giants such as FanDuel and DraftKings, but also in a time in which the strength of gambling regulations are coming under question.

A unique award

The NCPG is America’s oldest organization devoted to resolving gambling issues. It creates policies and programs to help resolve personal, economic, and social issues caused by problem gambling.

“The primary focus of the iCAP process is consumer protection,” the NCPG claims. “Ensuring that your customers, from the time they join, are able to gamble safely.”

The council’s Internet Compliance Assessment Program was designed to ensure that customers are safe and protected. The accreditation has only been awarded to six other entities, most of them state-run lottery organizations.

Tipico was able to obtain the accreditation largely thanks to its Fair Play Pledge, which began in February. According to a company press release, the pledge aims to provide:

  • Protection through cool-off periods, limits, and other resources
  • Clear messaging during promotions and advertising
  • A streamlined experience that is easy to understand and navigate
  • A rewards program with no opt-in required
  • A commitment to safety
  • Easy access to humans, not AI, on 24/7 support lines

Tipico also tracks users that exceed its “Responsible Gambling Automated Thresholds” and deals with them in a three-step plan: “recognize, help, and educate.”

The accreditation can only be awarded after a review of the company’s general operations, customer support options and execution, employee training, and investment into education. The iCAP award is valid until April 2026.

Tipico’s commitment during trying times

Tipico said that it is committed to the expansion of responsible gambling following its accreditation from the NCPG.

“iCAP accreditation is a meaningful award for Tipico because it validates our approach to make fair play a companywide initiative that requires buy-in by our employees. I am incredibly proud of our team for rallying around our efforts to continuously improve safety and clarity,” said Bryan Schroeder, Tipico’s Senior Vice President of Compliance & Legal. “Our primary goal is to ensure customers have the best possible experience when they place a bet because they trust us and our products.”

Responsible Gambling applauded the Fair Play Pledge

Gambling Integrity, an organization whose mission is represented by its name, performed an audit of Tipico’s responsible gambling activities before the accreditation was awarded. The audit revealed the company was consistent with its mission, and Responsible Gambling applauded the Fair Play Pledge and its commitment to maintaining a safe gaming environment.

Keith Whyte, Executive Director of the NCPG, commended Tipico for taking the initiative as the first sportsbook to pursue the accreditation.

“Tipico Sportsbook’s iCAP accreditation is a testament to their dedication to player protection,” said Whyte. “Through this achievement, Tipico showcases exemplary leadership and a commitment to responsible gambling best practices.”

Responsible gambling is an important conversation this week. News broke a few days ago that Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter may have stolen and gambled millions from the Los Angeles Dodgers’ superstar, though many believe the interpreter is also taking the fall for Ohtani.

ESPN’s Rece Davis also referred to sports betting as a “risk-free investment,” a term the American Gaming Association banned during sportsbook advertising, on air on Sunday.
