Welsh Police Bust Illegal Gambling Den in Cardiff

An organized crime unit from combined Southern Wales police forces has raided an illegal gambling den in the Splott district of Cardiff.

South Wales Police shared news of Tarian Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU)’s successful bust last weeek, part of an escalated UK-wide police campaign against fraud. The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) took to X to share images of the February 28 raid in which Tarian ROCU arrested two males on suspicion of money laundering and gambling act offenses:

Over the month-long Operation Henhouse national police campaign, the Welsh crime unit made seven arrests and issued more than ten Cease and Desist notices to individuals involved in money laundering and fraud in southern Wales.

Tarian ROCU’s Splott bust came via a partnership with the UKGC, His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs, and Cardiff City Council Licensing.

UKGC’s Executive Director of Operations Kay Roberts stated the watchdog was: “committed to tackling illegal gambling activity across the UK” and would continue its close collaboration with law enforcement and other agencies to bring this about.
