Malta Online Casino Hit With Record €19.7m?Dutch Fine

Malta-based online casino company Gammix Limited has felt the full wrath of the Dutch gaming regulator. The Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA) has dished out its highest-ever fine to Gammix. Totaling an eye-watering €19.7m?($21.3m), the penalty is €7.7m ($8.3m) larger than the previous highest fine.

What did Gammix do to warrant such a punishment? Well, the KSA has determined Gammix operated in the Dutch market without the necessary license. The firm operates 21 different online casinos via its Malta Gaming Authority license, but it is not allowed to cater to Dutch players without also getting regulatory approval.

The multimillion-dollar fine is equivalent to 6.5% of the estimate gross revenue generated by Gammix in the Netherlands. Gammix had to pay €4.4m ($4.8m) for similar violations around a year ago. Meanwhile, other firms to have suffered similar punishments in the past include N1 Interactive, which paid €13m ($14m), and Videoslots, which paid €10m ($10.8m).

Commenting on the record fine, René Jansen, Chair of the KSA, said: “Dutch players must be protected, therefore we are taking a strong stance against illegal gambling offerings. We often see that illegal operators pay little attention to player well-being and do not adhere to responsible gambling practices.”
