One golf bettor is particularly confident that American pro Sahith Theegala is going to take victory in the Genesis Invitational.
BetMGM confirmed on Wednesday that a bettor has placed an $8,000 wager on Theegala for the golf tournament. At odds of +2800, the bet will make the gambler $224,000 if it comes off. The sportsbook, which is co-owned by MGM Resorts International and Entain, shared the bet on X:
The tournament will run from Thursday until Sunday this week in Southern California. Currently, according to sportsbooks, Theegala is not even among the top ten favorites to win the competition. He’s 12th-most-likely to take the win with BetMGM. DraftKings has him even further down the field, ranking him at number 16 at odds of +3500.
Scottie Scheffler is top with sportsbooks at odds of +650
As for the favorites, Scottie Scheffler is top with sportsbooks at odds of +650. The American has six PGA Tour wins to his name already, most recently taking the top spot at the Phoenix Open. Rory McIlroy also has a high chance of the win at odds of +1000, while Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele are both next up at odds of +1400.
The Genesis Invitational is part of the PGA Tour. A major disagreement between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf came to an end in 2023 when the two leagues agreed to a merger. The move means that players can now take part in both leagues rather than choosing one or the other.
