Cura?ao has long been a popular choice for online gambling operators that want a license without having to adhere to too many rules. Things are now changing on the Dutch-controlled island though, as the Cura?ao Gaming Control Board (GCB) seeks to clean up the sector by introducing new regulations.
Operators must clearly display the regulator’s seal on their landing page
The GCB has announced new procedures that all license holders must follow. Operators must clearly display the regulator’s seal on their landing page, also linking it to an official page that showcases the company’s license approval.
VegasSlotsOnline News reached out to Duncan Garvie, gaming regulation expert and Head of Alternative Dispute Resolution Services for Casino Reviews, to get his take on the new regulation.
“This is a big shift for Cura?ao,” Garvie said. “It will prevent fake licensees from just slapping up a Master License seal with no link, or linking to a fake license domain, so it is a strong statement of intent from the GCB. This will allow players to quickly and easily identify whether a gambling operator is legitimately licensed in Cura?ao, something that has not been possible for players up to this point.”
The GCB hopes that its new legislative approach will help bring its anti-money laundering and overall compliance standards up to modern-day levels. Some iGaming operators are seeking alternative markets due to the incoming changes, with the small East African island of Anjouan a popular choice.
