An Indonesian tourist was sentenced to four months in prison in Singapore after he found slot machine tickets on the floor of the Marina Bay Sands casino and proceeded to cash them out for S$24,000 (US$17,900). The tickets fell out of a staff member’s folder at the casino resort in March.

The tickets were on the floor close to the entrance to the Ruby Room, an invitation-only area. Silitonga Andri Parulian was getting ready to go into the room when he discovered the tickets. After cashing them out, he went straight to the airport and tried to leave the country. When he couldn’t immediately get a flight, he sent some of the stolen money to his girlfriend, another friend, and his own bank account.
The casino realized what happened the next day and identified the 27-year-old as the culprit from surveillance footage. When he attempted to fly back to Indonesia, immigration officers prevented him from doing so, as he was on a police stop list. Parulian refused to give back the money after his arrest and he has not yet made any restitution.
