A man in Kentucky won $1m after stopping at a gas station for an emergency refuel. He only had $40 on him, so he purchased $20 in gas and spent the other $20 on a “$1,000,000 Luck” scratch-off card. Michael Schlemmer’s fuel levels were so low at the time that he had to coast into the gas station.

He scratched the ticket when he got back to his car and the million-dollar symbol appeared, which meant that Schlemmer won the top prize. He quickly ran back into the store to tell the staff about his incredible luck. The convenience store will get $8,620 for selling the winning ticket.
Schlemmer collected a $616,330 check earlier in May at the Kentucky Lottery headquarters. This was the value he got for claiming a lump sum and after the deduction of taxes. Schlemmer intends to buy a newer vehicle with the funds and save the rest.
