A court in the Canadian province of New Brunswick has charged a Riverview man, Michael Thomas Glaspy, with the manslaughter of the food and beverages manager at Casino New Brunswick, Rodney Frenette.

Glaspy allegedly assaulted Frenette, 56, while the latter was working at the Moncton casino on March 4. The single charge of manslaughter follows Frenette’s death in hospital on March 28.

From Codiac Royal Canadian Mounted Police holding cells Friday, Glaspy appeared before Judge Anne Richard and Crown prosecutor Marine Polo at Moncton Provincial Court via tele-remand.

Polo agreed to Glaspy’s release from custody on multiple conditions

Along with his single charge, Polo agreed to Glaspy’s release from custody on multiple conditions. The judge banned him from entering the Moncton casino and venturing outside New Brunswick, except to attend his job in Saskatchewan.

According to the CBC, members of Frenette’s family attended court to hear Judge Richard charge the suspected murderer. In an interview with Radio Canada, Frenette’s daughter said it was devastating for the family to watch her father “suffer in absolute pain and agony for over three weeks.”

Glaspy’s lawyer, Gilles Lemieux, told media it was too soon to reveal how he would plead, given he’d yet to review the evidence in the case. “We have six weeks to figure it out,” Lemieux said, with Glaspy set to return to court May 26.
