A worker died after a structural collapse at the Spokane Tribe Casino’s construction site, where a hotel is being built. Local media identified the deceased as Ana Vetter, a 27-year-old local carpenter. The Spokane Tribal Police Department, alongside other agencies, is currently investigating the matter, which occurred at about 9:30am on Tuesday.
The cause of the accident appears to be a formwork collapse. Nobody else was injured during the incident. Spokane Tribe Casino general manager Javier De La Rosa said during a press conference on Tuesday that “the family and work crew onsite are at the forefront of our thoughts and prayers.”
loved her work and was proud to be a woman in construction”
On its Facebook page, the Spokane Tradeswomen labor union wrote that Ana Vetter “loved her work and was proud to be a woman in construction.”
A commenter on the post added: “I remember her telling me that she wanted to work in construction. And then she got her first job. She was a very nice girl, who was a very good friend of my daughter. This is surely a tragedy. RIP Ana.”
Tony Edwards of the Carpenters Local Union 59 called Vetter “a great carpenter and an amazing person.”
