A man in South Carolina has decided to donate his $150,000 Powerball lottery win to charity. According to a news release from the South Carolina Education Lottery, the Greenville man purchased a quick-pick ticket for the lottery draw on January 16.

was only a single number away from winning the grand prize

The winner, who wishes to stay anonymous, was only a single number away from winning the grand prize. This multi-state lottery is extremely popular due to the substantial prizes up for grabs. Just last week, someone won the fifth-biggest-ever Powerball jackpot of $754.6m.

The charitable man matched four white ball numbers as well as the red Powerball number, an eventuality with odds of 1 in 913,129. As he had chosen to pay an extra dollar to activate the PowerPlay option, his winnings rose from $50,000 to $150,000. The odds of getting this 3x multiplier when the jackpot is worth over $150m is 1 in 3.23.

Commenting on his decision to donate the winnings to an upstate charity, the man said: “I hit enough to make someone happy,” noting that the win was “exhilarating.” The GT Express Mart in Greenville that sold the ticket received a commission of $1,500.
