A Frank Lampard replacement

Sportsbooks believe Marcelo Bielsa will replace Frank Lampard at Everton after the Toffees manager was sacked Monday.

19th in the table and joint-bottom on points

Lampard has had a rough go at Everton this season, earning just 15 points from 20 games. The Merseyside club sits 19th in the English Premier League (EPL) table and joint-bottom on points despite having been in the top flight of English soccer every year since 1954.

Joining Bielsa on the list of top candidates are former Burnley boss Sean Dyche, floundering West Ham manager David Moyes, and ex-Everton product and England legend Wayne Rooney.

Candidates for the job

Lampard joined a struggling Everton side in January 2022. He helped them avoid relegation in the 2021/22 season but has clearly not convinced his higher-ups that he can do the same this season.

Bielsa, at +138 has emerged as the premier candidate to replace the former England midfielder, according to Paddy Power. He believes in relentless pressure and is willing to overlook a few leaks to create troughs in opposing defenses. He flamed out at Leeds United after it became evident that he was running the players into the ground with little to show for it, but his passion and attention to detail would be a nice change for a struggling squad.

Dyche has plenty of years of experience in the Premier League

Dyche (+188) is quite the opposite. The 51-year-old is known for doing less with more and playing a pragmatic style that secures points at the expense of aesthetic viewing. Dyche has plenty of years of experience in the Premier League and would not be stepping into an unfamiliar situation near the bottom of the table.

Rooney (+1000) is a much less-likely candidate for the vacancy. He has never coached above the Championship and is currently struggling to adapt as DC United’s manager. Moyes (+1600), meanwhile, is already employed by the Hammers who, despite their troubles, are ahead of Everton, and have much more financial backing.?

Other names that have been floated around are previous caretaker Duncan Ferguson (+600), ex-Wolves and Tottenham man Nuno Espirito Santo (+1600), and Celtic gaffer Ange Postecoglou (+3300).

Where does Lampard go?

While Everton is scrambling to replace its ousted manager, he will be on the hunt for a new job.

According to odds from Betfair, West Ham (+350), Cardiff (+400), and Leicester (+700) are all possible destinations for the Chelsea legend. Of the three, only Cardiff has an opening in the team coach department, but both West Ham and Leicester are growing increasingly impatient as negative results continue to pile up.

+900 odds of him assuming the mantle as England coach

Lampard is also +800 to take a Spanish job and +1000 to move to Italy despite spending all of his playing career in English-speaking countries. There are also +900 odds of him assuming the mantle as England coach, even though the FA pledged its allegiance to Gareth Southgate after the World Cup.

Bournemouth, Stoke City, and even the Ireland national team have also been hypothesized, although they are less likely than the positions listed above, according to sportsbooks.

In 95 appearances as manager at Chelsea and Everton, Lampard has produced a career managerial record of 37-19-39 in the Premier League. He also had a successful one-year spell at Derby County, whom he helped reach the Championship play-off in his first year as a manager.
