Opening up new markets for bettors
BetMGM is now an authorized gaming operator of the Professional Fighters League (PFL), allowing US bettors to place wagers on PFL fights beginning with the PFL 4 event on June 10.
BetMGM announced the new partnership via Twitter on Wednesday:
Also through the agreement, BetMGM will be able to use the league’s marks and logos, in addition to running promotions that are specific to the PFL.
Enhancing the excitement of the PFL
Speaking about the deal with BetMGM, PFL CEO Peter Murray said: “Professional Fighters League is excited to partner with BetMGM to evolve our premium MMA betting experiences for the millions of passionate sports fans across the country.” He also noted how expanding the PFL’s sports betting offering will bring an additional level of excitement to fans.
BetMGM chief revenue officer Matt Prevost also commented on the new partnership. He said: “The upcoming PFL slate is phenomenal, and we look forward to offering fans exciting opportunities to get in on the action with unique PFL promotions on BetMGM.”
not the first sports betting operator to partner with the PFL
BetMGM is not the first sports betting operator to partner with the PFL. In April, DraftKings announced a partnership with the self-proclaimed number-two MMA organization in the world. This was the first betting partnership for the PFL, which also sees DraftKings on board as a daily fantasy partner.
Two burgeoning companies
Founded in 2018, the PFL has a number of notable investors on board, including Washington Nationals owner Mark Lerner and comedian Kevin Hart. It stands out from other fighting organizations thanks to its traditional sports season structure that eventually culminates in championship fights. The PFL has a deal in place with ESPN to broadcast events live on its various channels.
The league uses SmartCage technology during fights to provide instant analytics for broadcasts, and also allows for real-time prop bets. This is achievable through proprietary technology and biometric sensors that capture real-time data like kick and punch speed, energy exerted, and heart rates of the fighters.
Just like the PFL, BetMGM kicked off in 2018 as a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Entain Plc. Its online casinos and sportsbooks are up and running in many states, as are its multiple partnerships with numerous sports organizations. BetMGM partners include the Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia 76ers, NASCAR, NBA, MLS, MLB, and NHL.
