In an exclusive, EGR reported that Tipico is waiting on the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement to issue a license after it submitted its application earlier this year.

NJ preparations well underway

Tipico has set up shop in Hoboken, NJ, with 13 staff already on board. Digital marketing and sportsbook manager vacancies currently appear on the Tipico website’s US careers page. Former FantasyDraft CEO Steve Krombolz recently joined the team and will be integral in driving the company’s US growth and development. The role of managing director at Tipico US is occupied by Adrian Vella.

The German gaming juggernaut has also set up a US Twitter account for its US sportsbook. Here, followers can click to an advance sign-up page, which promises an exclusive offer in return. Also reportedly coming to the US soon is a Tipico online casino product. The German firm is expected to announce its technology partner for the online venture within weeks.

Germany’s premier sports betting operator has not specified other US states it is looking to enter with its offering.

Tipico powers on

As one of the largest sportsbooks in the world, Tipico is ranked sixth on the 2019 EGR Power 50 list of online gaming operators. This puts it one spot ahead of William Hill, a competitor with some physical presence at Ocean Casino Resort, Tipico’s new US partner.

Atlantic City’s casino industry has intensified its pulling power after three back-to-back years of market growth, culminating in its casinos posting a record gaming win of $3.46bn last year.

In less auspicious news from October 2019, a businessman filed a $15.5m lawsuit against Tipico over the alleged forging of franchising contract clauses. The sportsbook company has denied the allegations.
