Egyptian Magic Slot
If there’s one thing we can count on in an apocalypse, it’s that the cockroaches will survive, prowling the desecrated rubble in their armour shells, and that somewhere – in a cave or a bunker or an orbiting space shuttle – casino software developers will continue manufacturing slot games based on Ancient bloomin’ Egypt. There are so many Ancient Egypt themed slot games in the market, we barely know where to begin. Suffice to say, the industry is completely overrun by them – so hey, what’s another game tossed onto the growing pyre?
Egyptian Magic is a five-reel, non-progressive NeoGames video slot that aims to satisfy players’ seemingly unquenchable thirst for games featuring sphinxes, ankhs, Egyptian cats and the Giza pyramids. The game is known for its crazy wilds, lucrative scatter symbols and 10,000-credit jackpot.
Into the Tomb
Egyptian Magic looks and feels like most of its rivals. The action is spread over five reels and there are nine pay-lines, meaning there are nine possible winning configurations. The action takes place on a gold-edged reel grid, in a room featuring tribal drawings and mosaic colonnades. The graphics, such as they are, are excellent, and everything’s kept nice and colourful. The name of the game appears as if carved into a golden plate above the reel grid, flanked by a cat statuette and a golden sphinx head.
Along the bottom of the screen, you’ll find controls to set your maximum bet and also the number of pay-lines you wish to play on. Moreover, you can have a look at the pay-table; just click on the circular icon of two Giza pyramids. We’re pleased to report that the game also includes an autoplay function; it’s accessible via the button in the lowermost right corner. Coin values, meanwhile, range from 0.01 to 10, and a maximum of one coin can be waged per payline.
New Game, Old Symbols
As you travel back in time to Ancient Egypt, you’re sure to run into the same old faces. The reels are populated by the typical icons included in such games – scarabs, sphinxes, pyramids, pharaohs, ankhs, cobras and an Eye of Horus.
The game’s wild is the sphinx icon. It functions as a regular wild, in that it can replace all other icons in the game except the scatter. The wild is also linked with a 2x multiplier.
The scatter symbol in Egyptian Magic is the pharaoh. It is liable to appear anywhere on the reels, and the scatters pay in whatever configuration you find them. The scatters are not linked to fixed amounts on the pay-table, and nor do they provide free spins. Rather, you’ll be looking to land two, three, four or five wilds in order to win handsome multipliers on your total bet. The multipliers are 2x, 4x, 16x and 32x. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that you can sit back and watch your money grow simply by hitting a few scatter combinations.
Among the regular pay-table symbols, the golden pyramid is the one to watch out for. Pay-outs increase by a factor of 10 with every extra symbol you find, going from 10 for two to the 10,000 jackpot for five. Five Eye of Horus tablets nets 9,000 while five scarabs wins 8,000.
All in all, the pay-table in Egyptian Magic is rather attractive. The big money lies in landing five symbols, but the pay-outs for matching four stretch from 100 to 1,000. Landing three symbols is more likely, and doing so will engender modest wins that stretch from 10 to 100. However, with the wild and scatter symbols in play, both of which are attached to multipliers, you can amass a decent bank-roll in next to no time.
Worth the Trip to Egypt?
Yes and no. Look, there’s no getting around the fact that Egyptian Magic is based on a theme that has been done to death. There are probably more Egypt-themed slots out there than there are Christmas movies! That being said, if you’re new to the world of online slots, Egyptian Magic is a decent place to start. The coin values of the game mean virtually anyone can play, and with multipliers in abundance, there’s plenty of lucre to be won.
That said, one can’t help but bemoan the lack of free spins. A bonus round would also have been nice. In summary, Egyptian Magic is far from mesmeric but hardly deserving of damnation.
