Golden Rome Online Slot Machine Review
There are a large number of slots about Rome in the crowded casino industry, all featuring a similar range of symbols, including the obligatory character wearing a golden crown, golden coins and a centurions helmet. So when reviewing a slot with a similar theme employed by others I ask the question whether or not this slot stands out from the crowd? Read on and you’ll find out.
When you first play the slot you’ll be impressed by the look of the game. The reels are set against the backdrop of a Roman town, houses residing on the hills in the background, the slot itself set in a Roman Villa with two opaque blue pillars framing the reels. The symbols are set against marble and are well drawn, although it’s a little disappointing to see so many playing card characters on the reels. The two eye catching symbols are the Caesar type character and the female character that looks like a mix of Liv Tyler and Angelina Jolie (which isn’t a bad mix at all). The sound accompanying the slot is a little disappointing with very simple sounds accompanying each spin, but this does improve markedly during the free spins round.
The feature of the game is the free spins bonus round which is activated by the scatter symbol of the slot.
Set up and Play for Golden Rome
The Golden Rome slot by Leander has the same five reels that you’ll find at many slots, although the 40 win lines offer a slightly larger number than average. Unusually, these 40 win lines are fixed, so you won’t be able to play fewer. The minimum bet size per line is just 1 cent with a maximum of 10 cents, making a maximum stake of $4 per spin.
This slot has an added auto play feature which you can set to between 10 and 500 and a useful info button which brings up all of the rules and the pay charts of the slot. The pay chart will show you that the female character is the most profitable in the game earning you 500x your coin amount if landing 5 in a row (all pays come when landing consecutive symbols from left to right on a win line). This symbol is worth more than three times any other symbol and is a stacked symbol – the other symbols being the eagle emblem, the helmet, the gold coin and the pottery, as well as the playing cards.
The male Caesar type character is the wild one in the game and this is stacked, leading to more wins than you might expect with a standard wild symbol. You’ll not gain a win with this symbol for simply landing on a win line, which again is a little unusual as at many slots the ‘wild’ is one of the top paying ones.
The free games feature round is activated when landing the Coliseum scatter symbol 3, 4 or 5 times across any of the reels. You’ll also receive an immediate small win when you achieve this.
Golden Rome Free Spins Feature
You’ll receive 12, 20 or 40 free games, this dependent upon whether you hit the scatter symbol 3, 4 or 5 times. During these free spins you’ll receive a multiplier based upon the number of wilds seen on the reels. This could actually lead to some very big wins, as the more wilds you gain will give you the double bonus of more wins and a greater multiplier.
Unfortunately, this is the only feature of the game which has to be said is somewhat disappointing.
Golden Rome Slot – Conclusion
At the start of this review I asked the question of whether or not this slot stands out from the crowd. The answer is a somewhat conclusive ‘No’. Yes, the slot looks good and the first impressions are good, but that is the highpoint of the slot. There is nothing original here at all, simply a standard slot with a free games round, which is seen at many other variations on this theme. This is somewhat surprising for a game in the Leander range – this software house are known for both innovative and involving slots.
This slot may appeal to the type of player that enjoys low-intensity games with a historical theme. If that sounds like you, then why not take a look for yourself?
