Island Slots
Time to pack your bags and leave your worries behind, the game that we are about to introduce is taking you on a trip far away from home.
The soberly named Island is a video slot game designed by the Igrosoft team and it is set on an unnamed tropical island, somewhere in the middle of the ocean. Far away from civilisation, your only worry will be to make sure that the reels keep spinning until you hit the jackpot.
If you feel like you deserve such a holiday under the sun, stay with us for a moment and read our full review of Island to get to know the game a little better.
Once upon a Time, on a Faraway Island
Everything in Island was designed to make you forget about your daily routine and allow you to escape to some tropical paradise - virtually speaking.
The overall design of the game is actually quite old-school, as you will be playing on a good old virtual slot machine, complete with flashing, square-shaped buttons at the bottom. Within this metallic casing, you will get a clear view of the ocean, with an unfortunate sailor floating slowly on a makeshift boat.
If you do not want to end up stranded in the middle of the ocean like this poor fellow, follow our gameplay instructions in the next section of this review.
Sail Away
It turns out that Island is as straightforward as any slot game can be in terms of basic rules. You will only need to take a brief look at the screen to know where you stand and what you should be doing.
The game matrix is made up of 5 different reels with 3 symbol position per reel. The 9 paylines available are where you need to land winning symbols combinations in order to win a cash prizes. Your wager and the symbols you score will determine the size of that reward. Use the bet button to change your bet per line and the line shortcuts to activate or deactivate any payline on screen.
Island also features an optional mini game after each win. You get the opportunity to double your reward by playing a simple card game against the dealer. Any wrong guess will take your reward away, so think twice before you pick a card on the table.
Place Your Symbols onto the Grid
The paytable of Island contains a decent array of reel symbols, all linked to the maritime universe of the game and arranged according to an original grid system.
The different symbols are the bottle of rum, the seagull, the tuna can and the ship wheel – these 4 being the most common and least valuable in the game. They are followed by the turtle, buoy, dolphin and game logo, those being worth up to 5,000 coins at once.
Symbols can be combined in different ways on paylines to trigger cash prizes, in a grid pattern that you can check in the game menu. The most valuable combinations contain 5 identical symbols, but you can still win some extra coins with only 4 or 3 symbols lined up in the proper way.
Shortcuts to the Treasure
Island also hides a couple of special symbols, ready to spice up the game a little and help you land some extra big wins.
The joker is, simply put, the wild card of the game that can replace all of the basic symbols except the game logo. Use it to score a few more combinations when you least expecting, and keep earning some more coins on the reels.
The island symbol is a scatter, of which you will need 3 in any position on the reels to trigger the bonus game. Help the stranded sailor to make his way to the island and you will get a reward for each step in the right direction. Furthermore, if you manage to reach the island and avoid the traps you will be entitled to the surprise island jackpot.
More Possibilities Than Meet the Eye
Island looks and feels like an old-school, very classic slot machine game with few surprises in store, but if you stick around long enough then you will realise the real scope of the game and the possibilities it offers.
So do not be deceived by appearances and come spin the reels of Island. The stakes are actually quite high on every single spin and the possibilities, as large as the ocean itself.
