Hot Cherry Slot
There seems to be a fairly common trend emerging within the world of online slots right now, as developers seem to take a term, throw the word hot in front of it, and subsequently release a pasted together game around it. The problem is that this simply represents lazy slot game development for the most part.
However, there are instances in which the “Hot” prefix, especially when a classic slots game is being offered up, has real meaning. Enter Hot Cherry, a Drive Media game that is based around 3 reels, 3 rows, 5 paylines, and arguably very little else.
To say that the classic slots market is a tough nut to crack is anything but an understatement, as it’s a game type that has certainly been overshadowed as of late. That being said, does Hot Cherry bring the heat back to the world of classic slots? The following review reveals all!
Classic Play that Raises the Temperature
You can never look too much into the design of a classic online slots game, as there really is only so much you can do with a 3x3 setup. In most instances this results in a flat looking game that does very little to spark the imagination. While Hot Cherry is far from perfect visually, it does at least add a few nice touches that help differentiate it from other 3-reel games.
The theme of the game is a real life slot machine, as you’ll see the actual physical unit and buttons surrounding the reels. On the reels you’re going to see a selection of old classics in the form of lemons, sevens, melons, cherries, berries, and stars. This is all placed in front of a flame-drenched backdrop that gives the game some additional oomph.
From a design standpoint, Hot Cherry isn’t really groundbreaking, but it’s not exactly unenjoyable in appearance either.
Presenting a Fruity New Challenge
Even for a classic game, Drive Media has still been able to bump things up a notch as far as gameplay is concerned. The minimum bet in Hot Cherry is 5.00, while the maximum bet is an eye watering 250.00. You just don’t see max bet levels of this type in classic slot games, so our hats are off to Drive Media for bringing us something a little different.
The problem we have with Hot Cherry is that in spite of being high variance, the game is pretty sluggish when wins do occur, so it isn’t always easy to jump back into the action.
All Sizzle, No Steak
We don’t expect all that much when it comes to bonus features with 3-reel online slot games, but we do expect at least one additional extra. In this regard, Hot Cherry appears to come apart at the seams, as it has absolutely no additional extras (outside of a default gamble feature) to offer players.
No scatters, no wilds, no free spins, no mini games, and no bonus rounds mean that Hot Cherry has a real problem when it comes to replay value.
Button Mashing Madness
What represents a redeeming feature for Hot Cherry is the fact that the control panel seems to be custom made. Unlike in other Drive Media games where it looks like this element has been crowbarred into place, with Hot Cherry the buttons fit the style of the game and make general gameplay that much easier to manage.
Hot Cherry Hits the Spot!
Drive Media are hardly known for delivering engaging and entertaining slot games, with brand’s MO seemingly being quantity over quality. However, it appears that the developer has sprung a bit of a surprise with the release of Hot Cherry, as while it’s far from perfect, it does provide some classic slots action for the most part.
If you like your online slot games to come with plenty of sizzle and snap, Hot Cherry probably isn’t going to be for you. But if you like your real-money slots to come with a touch of old school flare, this particular game will be right up your street.
