Mighty Kraken Slot Machine
The deep ocean is full of mysterious and dangerous creatures, the most famous of them probably being the mythical Kraken: a giant octopus rumoured to be able to sink even the largest ships down to the bottom of the sea.
Mighty Kraken uses this legendary creature as a theme, giving a chance for this giant of the sea to give back some of the many treasure it has amassed over the centuries.
Keep on reading to find out more about the game universe and how to navigate the rough scenes to win the treasure of the Kraken!
Under the Deep Blue Sea
Mighty Kraken takes the players under the surface of the ocean, in the lair of the Kraken, it isn't the first underwater slot, but it sure is unique.
The background shows a sunken ship lying still on the seabed, with sunbeams coming from above. The atmosphere seems eerily quiet, and even though the graphics are simple they create a pleasant backdrop for the game.
The music is simply epic, you will feel like the captain of a ship on the hunt for the monster and battling against the elements for your life – and for the treasure. Mighty Kraken is a good example of how relatively simple design elements can create a great game universe.
How to Defeat the Creature
In terms of gameplay, Mighty Kraken is also a simple game. The setup consists only of five reels and five paylines, which is not a lot.
This leaves only a few settings to take care of manually for the player. You can start by setting the coin value with the appropriate red button below the reels, and use the switches right above it to decide how many coins to bet on how many paylines. Once ready, hit the blue Start button and hope for a good catch!
Winning combinations consists of sequences of identical symbols lining up on an activated payline, paying from left to right as always. The most adventurous captains will not hesitate to play the optional Gamble game after each winning combination. Guess the colour of a hidden card to double your earnings, or guess the colour of its suit to quadruple them. Keep on playing as long as you dare, while keeping in mind that a single mistake will terminate the mini game and take away your coins as well.
For players who prefer long gaming session, use the Autoplay function to trigger as many autospins as you like. Then sit back and watch the action unfold before your eyes.
Preparation is Key
The paytable of Mighty Kraken is for the most part all about life at sea and fishing. The first four symbols correspond to the four classic suits of cards: Club, Spade, Heart and Diamond. A Bell, an Anchor, a Compass and a bearded Captain smoking a pipe directly follow them.
All these symbols display simple and beautiful designs, and while they are mostly static even after a winning combo they are still very nice to look at – especially when they collaborate to trigger big cash rewards.
The Captain Never Abandons Ship
The last three symbols of Mighty Kraken are, as you can imagine, a little special and bring something extra to the game.
First of all, there are two Scatter symbols with which you will have to work with during the game. The first one of them is a golden Harpoon, which only appears on the 1st, 3rd and 5th reels to trigger a cash reward. The second is a mighty Ship sailing through a storm, which can appear anywhere and is worth even more. Scatters can by definition constitute a winning combination regardless of their position on the reels.
Finally, the Kraken itself is the Wild card of the game, which seems logical. It can appear anywhere and helps form winning combinations by replacing any other symbol (except the Scatters). A simple move, but which can make the difference between randomly distributed symbols and the jackpot!
Kraken Effort
Mighty Kraken stands out by its simplicity and yet its power. The Kraken is a strong character and the aesthetics of the game help create an immersive experience for the players.
The rewards are decent, but the presence of two Scatters with no Bonus games or Free Spins is perhaps a bit superfluous as the Harpoon does not bring much to the game. The very low number of paylines will probably be an issue for a large number of players more accustomed to play on 20 or 25 paylines, if not more. If you do want something more along the same lines, you could always try IGT's Lobstermania.
